No bumpers mean insurance can opt out of covering you?

Was wondering if removal of bumpers or anything that makes a car no longer DOT compliant is in the fine print of auto insurance. (is this even an issue?)
I guess the better question is has anyone ever had their insurance company tell them they are not covering the wreck since the bumpers were shown to be missing?
From many experiences I know the adjuster doesn't look at the car until it's at the wrecking yard (no, not all my wrecks!). I guess you could try and play dumb. "Hey man they were on there, guess someone in the yard already walked off with them".![Wink](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I tend to think this is not an issue. As I've never heard of ANY bodyshop or seen any print anywhere stating, "be sure to check local laws about bodykits and bumpers".
It's just far more likely that a car will be "totaled" in a collision without the bumpers. Even in slower crashes.

Insurance can deny a claim for pretty much any violation of DOT Standards, even changing your Headlights or Tunr signals to "Off road use" bulbs. Even something as simple as someone "saying" you were exceeding the speed limit (Without proof) can cause insurance problems.
