Its shared with the g35(skyline gt350) chassis. The fx also comes from the g35 chassis.

^^ +1

Its the FR-L/FM platform which is used by the G35, FX35/45, M35/45 and 350Z

I read an article that said "If Nissan had to build an unique platform just for the 350z, then the car would of never been made, it would of been to costly", and at the time Nissan was hurtin financially

Exactly.. you get what you pay for. Like it or not the Z is a budget sports car with a shared platform. Real sports cars(dont take that the rwrong way) have dedicated chasis' built for them. Example: Corvette So they can design it to suit the needs of that specific application as far as weight and other factors. Along with that dedication comes a price hike. Hopefully the sky line will have a dedicated chasis..

If Nissan did make a unique platform for the 350z and used aluminum and other light weight materials they could of easily made a 2700 lbs car, BUT it would or probably cost around $50k-$60k

This would probably put it out of range (financialy) for most of you guys...

Ahhh now I see why the Z is a little heavy. Yes, if Nissan had built a dedicated chassis for the Z I doubt I'd be able to afford one. I'm happy with the Z I have..the extra weight doesn't hurt too much...it's still an awesome sports car.

Which would be the Skyline range..

PS ..only out of range till I graduate college.. but for 50-60 I think I'd rather the new M3..

maybe that is why the 300ZX was so expensive in it's day.

If the Z had a dedicated chassis it would be great...but if a 350Z cost 50-70k that puts in it a class with a lot of competition. I mean I'd easily buy the new z06 vette over a 350Z if they shared the same price.

So if Nissan made a dedicated Z chassis then they would've also had to increase the HP so it would compete with other $50k-$70k sports cars.

The s2000 has a independent chassis that is not shared with other hondas but it costs 33k. Nissan could have made an independent chassis for the Z but they would have to leave out the electronic gadgets like in the s2000 if it were to still be in the 30k range

I wish the Z was the same way. Why do you need navigation a 6 cd in dash changer, heated seats etc in a sports car?

Wow, so the 2006 models took a weight gain? My 2004 Track model (with a full tank of gas and a fairly heavy audio system) weighed in at 3300 even.

Uhh because most people drive them every day... and they want to be semi-comfortable in the half-tolerable interior. The s2000 could NEVER be my daily driver. I'd love to keep my bimmer for a daily and get something like that for a weekend car though..

I think people overrate the rough ride of sports cars. If I ever get the chance I would have an elise as my daily driver. I personally dont like smooth riding cars.

You don't have to order either one of those things. I did though because the Z is my daily driver. I also race it and I just deal with the extra weight. it's still competitive.
