IMHO diva = attitude + ability to sing + a significant recording career (not just 1-2 albums)

Mariah is one of the only true divas left (not including the ones that no longer sing on a regular basis like Patti, Anita, ...). Whitney is DQed for new found crack status.

There are way too many young cats that get/claim diva status. They have much attitude but very little talent (J. Lo, for example). Beyonce is almost there (needs another record or two w/ more original songs than covers).
