And that is all you need to do...just disengage teh clutch. It won't matter if there is .005" cleance or 5" of clearance, just so there is disengagement.

I have to hit the gas while releasing the clutch or the revs drop to quickly. More so around town in stop and go traffic. I also noticed the other day when going from first to second a quick clutch kick and shift make the shift much smoother around 5000 RPM.

Anyone else get this result

well it does depends i dont press the clutch all the way it has a high clutch point it goes very smoothly its like an orgasm

because the Z's clutch engages so high, i've also done many "half-depress" clutch shifts without ever once having grinded, or the shifter feeling like it was impeded as I shifted. with the long clutch pedal travel and high engagement point, the Z is very difficult to drive smoothly in stock form if you always press down the clutch all the way. to remedy it, I got the dwolf clutch kit and my car is 10x better to shift and drive. you lucky people can get the same mod for free now so what's stopping you?

As for me, when I shift into 1st and 2nd I fully depress the clutch pedal, after that its just about half way. Never had any problems, ie grinding gears. I've always driven standard that way, depressing the clutch about half way after 2nd.

Just press it all the way.

On a side note 2nd gear has always been hard to get into for me. Not sure why I think this appies to most Z's. I've driven my buddies and he has the exact same problem I do.

You don't need to push the clutch in to shift gears, just jam it in.

I fill up the tank full and determine if I'm going to drive like a granny (shift @ or under 2krpm), normal or a bit more aggressive until the next fill up. Granny driving definitely gives me more mileage.

This exactlly the way I do it.
half way there going up, half way there going down, with a litlle reve matching.
I am starting to like the "break ,gas" dealyl with the foot, as you break, the break pedale end up at the same level as the accelerator, I didn't I could do that untill I tried!
I am not good at it yet, but I am trying.
I got my car for 4 months now, and I am geting good at shifting that puppy!
You can feel the gear matching in your hands! if you get them at the right speed.
I eard of bad transmission's and all other crap, I think Z owners need to learn to shift!
Kid's, do not try this at home!
By now, I can do first to seconde in hight rev with out snaping you neck, I am happy with that.

pretty sure my clutch is dead but i step on my clutch about 2-4" no grinding from the top

Its just the Z. I drove an S2000 the other day and it was 1000 time easier to shift smoothly than the Z.

But I like the feel of the Z. It feels very heavy but solid. Makes the car feel like its a rocket ship... especially when you hit the pedal.

You are right...It doesnt feel easier to drive...I've always been pressing the clutch down all the way and just tried this way. I noticed why it may be smoother for my car anyways...when I fully press on the clutch quickly I hear a rattle in the tranny and the throttle jumps up a little without me giving it gas. If I press on the clutch about 70% the throttle stays put instead of jumping up...

I gotta try that kit the G35 drivers made...

This is a good thread. I was wondering why the Clutch on the 350z has such a distance to it. I thought it was just my car for some reason. But, even though it might take more effort and make you "tired'er" haha, I fully disengauge the clutch when shifting. Better safe then sorry

wow, this thread is still alive lol. at least ppl are searching, good job ppl.

no not that lazy, since i posted this thread, i moved my seat closer to be able to fully depress the clutch, and now actually have a harder time trying to depress it half way or whatever....what i thought and was doing before compared to now takes way more effort after getting used to properly driving.

How slow are you at shifting? I have the exact opposite problem. The revs dont fall fast enough for me. I'm always waiting a fraction of a second for the revs to drop before letting the clutch back out. This is worst on the 1-2 shift.
