Brickyard Rat,

I might be a young buck, but heck I`ve done my fair share of speed runs....
My only concern is wildlife. Up here we get Moose, Elk and Deer standing on the road even during the day. A 130 miles per hour that dosent leave much room for error. Heck even a little bunny rabitt at that speed could take you out in a hurry!
Have fun, and keep it as safe as possible!

<Reminds you that his aircraft approch speed is 85 miles an hour!!!!!lol 130 is FAST!!!!

Cheers,
Louis

I was heading that way at 6:30 AM a few Sunday's ago(heading to Deep Creek) and decided to see how this car feels at high speed.

My car is totally stock ('05 Enthusiast) except the tires are in storage for when I sell it as I have the Pilot Sport's with ~9000 on them.

Tire blowout was my biggest worry about going that fast.

Unlike what other's have said, I noticed that the steering got really heavy around 145 and I decided that merely changing lanes may not be a good idea (no cars on the road and it's 2 lanes each way) because the steering kind of spooked me.

I did not get the aero package cause I thought that little spoiler on the back looked stupid so I figured the car would get lighter at speed than one with the aero package because I don't get the downforce at speed from the front deflector.
That struck me as odd.

It is not unusual for me to run it up to 130 for long strethes and I feel perfectly comortable there but it was that 'magic' spot in the 140's where the car felt really different to me. Can't say I liked it.

Yep. True. And may I add that it is here that the brembos trully shine and give away their expensive nature. When I was stock, the OEM irons stopped maybe better dare I say. But, after 100 plus, the difference in braking power is insane. Im running 255 up front so that also helps a bit preventing the ABS from kicking in too early.

How old are you? Buy the way, just got back from Balt. Nice crab cakes in Inner Harbor. I spent a few hours trying to find a mall but got too lost and turned back. I went to the Irish Pub for drinks later in the Harbor. Pretty stoked!

PD: Saw a couple of Z driven by girls. Did not see any Evos.

I drive recklessly at times. To minimise risk while still being able to partake in life threatening driving behaviour -

Know the road, know where it ends. Then you know when to brake.
Wheel alignment is key.
Make sure your tyre pressures are equal left and right.
Make sure your tyres are speed rated to the speed.
Good weather for traction and visibility
Tell a friend what you're doing and when you'll be back so he can call for emergency aid if you're unconscious / bleeding / dying by the side of the road
Lay off the booze
Take note of where the flowers are by the side of the road.

LOL!

Now there's something we all could probably use to one degree or another!

Yea, I know where you mean. I actually spun my 300zx TT out of control at 140mph coming home from Phila around the turn where the new stadium is on your right. I bounced from like ping pong ball off each guard rail. Lucky im still here, didn't even have a seat belt on. Broke my passnegers ribs with my head! Anyway, I was younger...now I try to stay at reasonable speeds!

When I read of people in accidents and the paper says "not wearing seatbelts" all I can think of is "one less idiot to add to the gene pool"

I can not even conceive of driving a car without a seat belt on.
Have an accident at 30 MPH without one and you may as well have been going 100.

Rothersberger in a motorcycle accident today and the idiot was not even wearing a helmet.

Hey Brickyard, I don't think we ever answered your second question. To shift into 6th, you'd have to be a little over 145, maybe even 150 mph. I used the gear ratio calculator to figure this one out in the tech area. Link attached.
https://my350z.com/forum/engine-and-drivetrain/145369-gear-ratio-calculator.html
I created 2 charts with the same info, the second chart is better. It seems, you might not hit 6th without hitting the governor first.

Redline at 5th gear is not close to 150mph-others use calculators to guess I know. Redline in 5th is 142mph. Speed limiter is 159mph, not 155mph like many believe...

Yes but there are two sides to that story. The limited 159 on the speedos - in reality - is much closer to the 155-156 that is often quoted.

Anyone who's had the speedlimiter removed (via ecu reflash or whatnot) try to top it out? Kinda amazing that 5th is like 140ish @ redline. Does it take a while to reach these speeds from 100mph?

Anyone notice that the speedo and the digital readout are a little different? When I think I've got my needle at 65, my digital will read 63. I imagine, if the digital was more correct than the needle, I'm guessing mine would say 159 on the needle and say 155 on the digital. (multiple factor)

How can anyone at those speeds be analyzing what speed difference exists between the speedos? I always look at the digi one because its easier and my eyes are back on the road faster.

As do I, couldn't agree more about using the Digital speedo.
