Default Serial number but no VIN?

Hey, I searched and couldn't find the answer to this. My dealer gave me the serial number and ETA of my SB enthusiast this past friday. He said that he didn't have the first half of the VIN, you know the part starting with JN1 ... and won't have that until maybe a few days before the car arrives March 25th. Does this sound right? I kinda want to know the entire VIN cause I want to order my vanity plate ASAP. (The NJ DMV takes 8-10 weeks to process the order). And it will help my insurance company out instead of waiting till the last minute. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know what he means by "serial number". The car would have an order number, such as Z123456. This is a number that it is assigned once it is order and the order is processed.

The VIN is released when the order is fairly close, such as on the boat on the way over. The boat trip is 3 weeks and it may be almost a week from the port to the dealer. So he should be getting pretty close to getting the VIN, maybe in the next 2 weeks. Just keep checking with him. The VIN will eventually show up on his report.

Good luck.

Thanks Wayne, and yes I got my "order" number more than 2 months ago .... I'm waiting for my March delivery. I wanted to get the VIN number, and he said he had it, but only the last 6 digits. This is what he calls the "serial" number. I'm just not sure if he has the entire VIN and is not giving it to me for some reason or if he really doesn't have it.

my experience was that once the car is on the ship and in international waters..you get a VIN.

Don't know if it helps

Yeah well maybe cause they said my ETA was March 25th, still over a month away, the car isn't actually on the boat yet... therefore i can see why they don't have the entire VIN. Good enuf for me. Thanks guys!

I got the same as you(six numbers). They said pretty much the same thing that it is the last part of the VIN. I got this a week from last Friday and my ETA is March 17th. I can't wait. Hopefully I will get my VIN this week.
