Default Top Speed

I feel one thing that will be very interesting to see is the top speed of the Z. This is unaffected by weight, and based mostly on gearing, HP, or Cd of Drag. The 2002 NSX with 290 HP, and a new Cd of Drag of .30 (down from .32) has a new top speed of 175, up from the previous 168 MPH. I believe the Z is .28 or less ?? With 280+ HP, given the proper gearing, this will be a VERY fast car!! Certainly with the potential to hit 170 or more. This is going to depend on gearing, and where the Max HP hits in the rev range. Hopefully they did it right.

Well, according to http://www.zcarhawaii.com/compare.asp

The Cd of Drag is .32 and the weight of the Z is 3196. Anyone know how accurate these are going to be in the end?

GoldPlated,

I think you're numbers are a little off...are you sure you're not talking kilometers per hour? There are very few production cars that can top 200 MPH...for instance...the new Lamborghini Murcielago has a 580 HP V-12 with a top speed of 205.

Some more examples of unlimited top speed:
Corvette Z06 (405 HP): 171 MPH
Viper GTS-R (460 HP): 185 MPH
Ferrari 550 (485 HP): 193 MPH
Porsche 911 (320 HP): 177 MPH

If the 350Z is not electronically limited, I'd think top speed would be around 165-170 MPH or so.

I honestly don't think it will hit 170 either. Nor do I really care what the top speed is. But some food for thought: the old 300ZXTT hit 155 (not sure if it was limited) and tipped the scales at almost 3500 pounds. I think we're all assuming the 350 will outperform the old 300ZXTT in almost every way...

You're right, I don't plan to get my new Z up to top speed. However, I would have never thought that I'd get my 90' 300ZXTT up to top speed either. As for the 'limiter'... yes, it did have one and it kicks in @ 155 mph. It's almost as if the turbos just shut down. It really sucked. I only did it once just to see if the car could reach 160 mph. I'm sure it would have if the limiter wasn't there.

I ask because top speed is also an indication of acceleration at higher speeds. And since we dont know much about this car, I thought I'd bring it up. Even if the car is heavier than we'd like, it becomes LESS of an issue as speed increases, until utimately, it doesnt matter at all (top speed). So no, I dont plan to take it to top sped should I get one, But I would like to know how the roll-on races would go above 80 MPH.

Default Personally...

I could care less what the top speed is...I'm never going to go 180 mph or even close to it.

...I just want to get to 60 reeeally fast!

OK, let me play along.... Whats the point of getting to 60 really fast? And BTW, I think we already know this car isnt going to get to 60 really fast. At least not by my standards.

Default Play along...?

Because it's fun...?

And there aren't alot of places to go 100+ safely?

Becuase the torque feels great?

Because I can do it every day w/o going to the track?

Just my opinion, but did I miss anything?

50-70 mph acceleration is most important. like for passing lesser vehicles on the freeway by downshifting. now that's important.

There are some really really nice backroads to be driven on in the middle of the night. You just have to put forth the time and effort to find them.

Msink,

you dont think 0-60 in apprx. 5.2 secs is fast? how much faster do you want?

As far as top speed, people that are saying "who cares about top speed" well, u guys have to understand that some people get a rush going really fast. just like how one gets a "rush" or a "thrill" from 0-60, others have that same "thrill" when it comes to top speed. i am not on anyones side, but i can understand where both worlds are coming from. it is all what gets you hyped up, weather it is 0-60 or 200mph on the highway.. just a matter of what gets you that "thrill"

as for me, i love the 0-60 feeling. when that car takes off like a bullet off the start. thats just my style..
