Well.. im getting tired of the boring automatic transmission. Looking for a decent performance shop in san diego. If anybody could give me sum advise, and ideas of who to see about wht... thnx.

 

Why dont you just trade it in for a 6spd? i think it may be cheaper

 

someone posted a while back in the engine/drivetrain section about how parts/labor was around $5000 I think? Too much to pay for something that you shoulda thought about before buying the car IMO.

 

if you can sell the car to a private party and buy a used Z from a private party you can most likely do the AT to MT swap for almost nothing... or if you have some cash you can get a Z with more options or less miles than your current one...

if you go through a stealership you will most likely lose at least $3k in the turn around...

I have never heard of anyone getting a tranny swap but I doubt you can do it for less than $3k anyway with any kind of reliablity (as reliable as any 350z tranny can be anyways)

 

I did a A/T to M/T in my 200sx along time ago those parts are considerable cheaper then the 350Z would be.

Anyways your talking about alot of work-- new Tranny, ECU, Wiring, and the proper install of the pedals and cables though the firewall. It cost me 3grand for my 200sx doing most of the work my self.
I would guess around 5 grand at best, I would trade it in

 

Magic 3K?? That's way too much specially if you did it youself unless maybe you bought the parts new though Nissan. I had a shop here in (Tampa XAT Racing) do the swap for me on my 240sx it was about $1400 for used parts and labor.

g. luna this is just a guess but if you found the right doner car at a junk yard for tranny, brake pedal, clutch pedal, ecu, misc. hydrlic lines and parts, flywheel, and possibly drive shaft. Your still loking at spending as little as 3K and as much as 5K. 350z's are still fairly new to the market and there just aren't that many in salvage yards to drive the price down. I say sell your car and buy a new one.

yeah i agree. just trade it in for a 6spd. your tranny probably has a better chance of screwing up.

I have done that swap on z31's and my labor charge is about $1k, but parts, even used run about that much. There are just a bunch of small parts, more than you would imagine unless you have done a job like this before. The only way to do this on a z33 (or any car really) is to buy a wrecked car cheap and sell the auto. Unless there is something special about your present car, it is much more realistic to trade cars like others have suggested.

 

I feel obliged to chime in here. I was one of the folks who was going to get it done. I used to have a DB 5AT. I was in San Diego and was going to have VRT(mraturbo) do the work. I was going to start the funding after I got back from my dad's one weekend, but low and behold he was getting rid of his Redline 6MT. So we did a family transfer. I even got a better apr through my FCU than with the loan I had through dealer. Even Micheal said itd be better to just trade it in. But if you are insistent like I was then go for, VRT is one of the best shops around. Be prepared to part with alot of capital though. Do you have an extended warranty? Cash it in now if you decide to go through with it because a dealer will take one look at it and laugh if its anything drivetrain related. I was one of the most insistent people about this but changed my mind. Might want to look at used 6MT's. But if you have the money and want to go through with it, you wont go wrong with VRT. My $0.02

Call a couple of speed shops in your area and ask for a drag racing 3-speed automatic transmission. Should be interesting.
