Default And speaking of ricers my Austin brothers...

After a great weekend in Austin for the Texas Statewide Meet and Hill country cruise, I reluctantly plan my return to Dallas on Sunday. Even after about 500 miles of driving in a two-day period I am still looking forward to the trek back to Dallas. The first half was pretty uneventful. I was the lead member of an impromptu caravan consisting of an IS300, Solara and a 300M.

Just North of Waco, our little caravan is joined by a beautiful black SC430 (well, it WOULD have been beautiful if it were not so dirty) approaching at speed in the right lane. I slow down a bit and let him in front of me so my g/f can admire the ride. About 30 miles later we see this red Chevy Cavalier...well we heard it before we saw it. The car was lowered, with dual exhausts, an outrageous spoiler and, the mandatory red cellophane, saran wrap, window tint. OMG, now I have seen it all, a riced-out chevy cavalier.

The driver could not have been more annoying. Upon seeing the Z, he decided it was his God-given right to race it. The only problem was that he failed to wait for the traffic to clear. This future "Darwin Award" winner starts driving recklessly, passing cars on the shoulder and cutting other cars off...including me. Now I'm pissed. If you want to be an a$$ and kill yourself, it's fine by me, but don't endanger the rest of us.

Anyhow, the bonehead pulls up beside me and starts revving. When I let him go, he slows down to just antagonize me. This is where it's great to have a cool girlfriend. She says to me "baby, show him what you've got." A 6th to 3rd downshift followed by two redline upshifts and you could measure the gap in fractions of a mile. I settle down to normal speeds and this jerk comes back. So I pull on him again. This time, the SC430 pulls on him, too. The other cars in the caravan boxed him in and he was a non-factor for the rest of the drive. It's nice to see the good guys win for a change.

Don't you just love Texas?

Anyhow, I am counting on his stupidity catching up with him one day. He's the future victim of road rage, not to mention a walking, talking, driving, advertizement for birth control.

This guy was just over the top. I have had friendly "races" and folks that just want to see what the car can do. In fact, the guy in the Lexus SC430 gave us the thumbs up as well as about 5 other drivers. I am always cool about it. This other guy was just a complete a$$. I mean no redeeming value.

What brought his car to my attention was when he was swerving through traffic and nearly lost control of his car. He was really a punk. Then you read about these two guys in Houston that were killed for their Honda and you wonder, where is the equity? This guy was a MUCH better candidate for a violent crime victim. I know about 25 drivers that sure would not have missed him this past Sunday.

Maybe you were on the road. We saw 2 CS 350's heading South on I-35 at around 3-4 pm.

It would have been great, we could have driven side by side (like 90% of the other Texas drivers do when there is NOBODY else on the road) so he could not pass. Then my girlfriend could have used the built-in laser designator (I always wondered why there was no real "glove compartment") to select his POS Cavalier as a target for the 1-ton GBU-27 launched (in fire and forget mode) from the, previously unseen, F-117 which happened to be in the area. At which time, it would be highly advisble to execute a 6th to 3rd downshift and go WOT.

That would have been some serious road-rage; but it would make for one hell of a post in the kills section.
