...but what if they have cash in hand to buy it and you lose the sale because you wouldn't let them test drive it? It's a risk, but I'd say it's probably worth it.

went to the dealership.
got out my old 01 prelude.
salesrep came to me
i said i was looking for a z in touring.

he said just wait here and we'll go for a test drive.

no checks whatsover.

my wife and i went to the dealership around 7, it's probable that the salesguy was trying to squeeze one before closing.

i didn't buy from him, for one simple issue.
i asked him how much for my tradein prelude. his answer was did you like the z?

Some dealers can may not have as many non-buyers just looking for joy rides as others so they have the luxury of giving test-drives without starting paperwork or whatever. I do think giving test-drives without a hassle would increase the chance of a sale...there's not too many people who after driving a Z for the first time will say "Well, uuummm nah this just isn't working for me."

I made the mistake of letting a friend of mine drive my Z for a few minutes (I rode with him of course). Now he calls me almost every weekend trying to swap cars. "Not a chance in hell man" is all I can tell him.

I went to testdrive a Z about 30 minutes from where I live. I pulled up and parked, and walked over to the '03 that was sitting there. I was looking at it, checking it out and the saleswoman came up to me and asked if she could help of course. She says to me "its a really fun car, real fun to drive." So I said "alright, lets go find out." "Okay one moment let me get the keys and some dealer plates, be right back."

That simple. And I did buy it. There is no way I was buying one if I couldn't test drive one.

every customer is a potential buyer. so we gotta let them test drive it, whether a joy ride is on their mind, or a serious inquiry

let them take it up and down the streets, around some nice corners, hit the freeway.. drive it like it belongs to them (though, most of them do NOT abuse the car, which is obviously good)

you let them drive it, and they will love it far more than they did when they came into the dealership, even if they were positive they wanted the car.. its a reassurance

yes, then the dealership ends up with 10 Z's with more than 100 miles each caused by 'potential buyers'.

The way a dealership treats you is a huge indication of what they are going to do to you (financially, ). You aren't looking for a car as much as you are an overall experience. If the experience sucks you aren't going to buy the car...

"i test drove it at 17....haha and i got it up to like 115 and it wasn't my car.'

This is why some dealers have the attitude they do.......disrespectful kids.

Most of our test drive routes are approx. 5 miles at most. Most people that test drive the Z, buy the Z. Its a car fanatic thing. We have Murano's with 300 miles, but Z's with less than 25.. it's weird

Kyromoto- where in cali are you? Id be more than happy to take you for a test drive

I didn't know you had to have a parent with you if you were under 25 years of age...

I dediced to do a little test of my own...I decided to go test drive a new 2006 Vette coupe even though I can't afford one right now and have no intentions of buying one. I got to the Chevy dealer and a salemen came out saw my new Z with the dealer tags still on it and asked how could he help me. I told him I want to trade my Z in for a new vette. So he proceeded to show me the corvettes they had in stock I've never really looked at the new vettes up close and all I had no idea the A/Ts had paddle style shifters! After looking the car over for a while..sitting in it..checking out all the features..I decided NOT to ask to take it for a spin. They didn't have any manuals in stock and that's what I wanted to drive. I also didn't want to put miles on something I knew I wasn't going to get...I guess I chickened out hahaha

The vette was nice but when I hopped back in my Z I was surpised that it felt just as good and expensive as the vette. Maybe I'll go back at a later date and drive the vette to I can get a better comparison.

For the price difference, a Z will do just fine. However if you say Z06, it might be a different story.

Nah they didn't have any Z06's there..he said there was a waiting list. Plus it's really unfair to compare the 350Z to a Z06...completely different class. Even the Z vs regular vette coupe is pretty unfair. But I was surpised that my Z didn't seem "cheap" compared to the vette. But again I only sat in the vette and didn't drive it.
