'03-'05 is 287 HP @ 6200, and 274 ft/lbs @ 4800.

Shift points should be selected that keep the engine as close to the power band peak as possible. So yes, overshooting the peak allows you fall back in a better point in the next gear.

Ok I believe peak TQ is at 4800 still but peak HP is 200 rpm later. Even if you do not believe that tq is broader band on 06, it is easy to see why they increased redline. If peak hp was at 6400 tpm, that would be awful close to redline. For that matter 300 rpm is close to 6500 rpm on a hard charging acceleration. Increasing redline allows more confidence to go to redline. Just a thought.
