extreme level of critique due to anticipation
Here's my 2 cents on the reviews published so far(Sorry, its long):
1. The pre-order program, along with the fact that it is the return of a sports car icon after a 5 year hiatus has built up hype and anticipation like I've NEVER seen for a car before.
2. I think many of the reviewers felt the hype and were anticipating testing it for a long time also.
3. With all this hype and waiting time, perceptions of what this car would, and wouldn't have, started to become unlikely and more far-fetched (eg 315HP, etc..)
4. I think the reviewers raised their expectations with the wait like we did, so they may have gotten into the car with unbelievably high expectations, and therefore, found something negative to include about in their reviews, no matter how insignificant.
In summary, I think its awesome,, if you believe the above, that all anyone was able to criticize about was the interior quality and shifter feel. Personally, I feel that if the Z just "came out" with no pre-order program or hype, that the reviewers would be so overwhelmed with how awesome it ended up being that there would be NO negative comments about it at all.
I dont know about you, but I dont remember a car ever critiqued so much about little NITPICKY things. ( I personally don't agree with any of the negative points made on the car as being something even worth mentioning, but am glad someone at least tried to find the wrongs things about it. ) Some of the negative points arent really negative!
But Nissan stated early on that they would be offering 50K performance for under 30K, so they set the bar stratospherically high to begin with. So far, they have passed the initial barrage of reviews with an "A" in my book. I solute Nissan for that.

Let's just be sure we don't intermingle some of Jeff15's brilliant observations with those that the rest of the forum have made. I think he typifies the term "nit-pick".
