Cops can do "instant on" where they leave the gun off until you get right in front of them and then click it on last second. That situation cost me $150 for 50 in a 35.

In Florida they use airplanes on certain roads and time yoo in between markers to register your speed, undetectable. All they do is radio cops sitting ahead and your a sitting duck. This situation cost me $168 for a 92 in a 65.

I got nailed in Maryland by VASCAR, which stands for Visual Average Speed Computer and Recorder. Dividing distance by time or somethin, that cop told me christmas came early and reduced the ticket from $270 to $70 for going 92 in a 55.

Up to you to decide if spending $400-$1000 is worth it to merely detect radar, a lot of times it isn't. I rock the cordless Passport, only have to change batteries every 5 weeks or so and the range it good.
You live in cowland j/k... He's in OC.. trust me, you can't go 10mph without some idiot blocking your way or someone trying to racing you... radar will help him most likely since cops will be tagging someone in front of him... Even at 4am in the morning when I drive down to OC for work, pickup trucks are all over teh place doing 90s... SoCal freeways are never empty =(

So why the heck are Carpool lanes like $271 MINIMUM (unless they raised it)? Those aren't even safety violations.

Look into the ZR3. It's a laser shifter and make your car invisible to a cops radar. It can be used with the Solo II. Well worth the investment.

Here it's line $3 per mph over plus $35 court cost so that 85 in a 65 would have cost $80 here. However, you Ins is going to tag you for much more!

I don't want to be too brutal here, but everyone does know that radar and laser are two different things right?

Lasers are Light Amplification by Simulated Emission of Radiation. It is basically concentrated light of a certain wavelength.

Radars are Acronym for Radio Detection And Ranging. Only they detect more than just radio wavelengths.

If you can't have points taken off by going to traffic school, go to court a plead not guilty. Worst case, they find you guilty and you have to pay the fine. Best case, cop doesn't show up and ticket gets dismissed. You've got nothing to lose but time.

BTW, I have a class A-M (Class A plus motorcycles) and I never have a proble going to traffic school here in Vegas, unless I get a ticket in a commercial vehicle.

I am going to pick nits here...well because I can.

Radar Detectors might detect more than just an emission from a "radar" but Radar and Laser are not the same thing. Same operating principle, a beam of particles that bounce off of a target, with the round trip time determining range with subsequent samples giving the targets speed. And as you stated Radar is a radio wave and Laser is a light wave.

And to be even more technical, a Radar only detects whatever band it emits.

Thanks for the definitions, I wanted to post them this morning, but I didn't have time to look them up.

Cobra radar detectors work really well, for those interested. It's hepled my Dad avoid hundreds of tickets by now since he commutes to work 1.5 hours daily to and from.

I got 85 in a 45 four years ago. 85 was after I caught the glare of his windshield and found the brake pedal. Cop didn't have his radar on until he saw me. He was hiding behind a tree... the one time I actually had a reason to speed. Some drunk jackass was trying to run me off the road in a Tahoe. I tried slowing down and he did too. I tried speeding up and he did too. There was nowhere to turn off.. so I gunned it. Oh well, you play you pay... $350 all said and done. He was nice enough to give me the option of Jail or the fat ticket. =)

BTW I've used the PNI Traveller2 for over 3 years now. You can find them on ebay for under $100. It's no Valentine One, but it does the job and has great range. Plus, it's wireless and a much cleaner look. I hate loose wires.

Half of avoiding tickets is technology. The other half is knowing cops and how they think.

Get prepaid legal. Lawyer goes to court for you and drops the ticket EVERY TIME. I've had 6 tickets dropped in the last 4 years and I have a clean record. $16/month, can't beat that.

it's not the price of the ticket that you have to worry about... it's the insurance sky rocketing... i'll rather have a pricy ticket over higher insurance any day

Passport SRX has saved my but many times, however, even with the best radar\laser detection\jamming system I drive very cautious. It’s only an aid, not a star-trek like “Shield”. I wish I could get some of the radar absorbent paint, but that’s most likely classified stuff……

I still don't understand why people think they can get away with speeding w/o using a radar detector
