my first car, before my z was a convert. and the blindspot is sooo awful. not to mention how unsafe they are (accident wise). it does cost a fortune to have it replaced if some douche decides to go to town on your rag with a knife (or any other mishap for that matter)

its only good for a fun car, during nice weather. dont make it your main vehicle

The top is NOT canvas. It's a synthetic material that's a lot more durable. As long as you keep a protectant on it, it should hold up for quite a while.

Also, I'm not sure where you guys live but I don't have any knife wielding maniacs running around in my neighborhood.

How about some actual constructive advice ...

+1

Although I do try to keep my sense of humor about it, but it's tough taking the bashing from people who have never own a Roadster let alone drivin in one (other then maybe a quick test drive)...

I thought Chicago's nickname was the "The Windy City" ... not the "Knife Wielding Maniac City" ...

I think we can all agree on these points

1) The Roadster is less safe then a coupe in a major accident.

2) The upkeep on the Roadster will be more then a coupe, although I doubt you will notice any difference until several years later, so if your a person who buys a new car every 5 years you should not see any of those extra upkeep costs.

3) The raodster is heavier then the coupe and is slightly slower. I beleive its like 0.2' slower to 0-60 then the coupe (time for us roadster owners to commit hari-kari)

4) They have less room then there coupe counterparts

5) Covertiables do tend to have more blind spots while the top is up compared to there coupe coutnerparts, then again Lambo's and Ferreri's have always had blind spots and there coupes... I guess if you can't handle a few blind spots you should buy a minivan with big windows all around

Bottom line, The Roadster is not for everyone... You have to enjoy the wind blowing thru your hair and being exposed to everything around you... To me this gives you a sence of freedom where a coupe makes you feel like your in a capsule, IMO. But if your into racing then the coupe is definatly the logical choice... Just not cool for coupe owners to bash Roadster owners to make themselves feel more superior.

I also have a slight suspicion that some of the coupe owners that trash our verts simply can't afford a roadster ... therefore they rip it apart to reassure themselves their car is better.

As some of us like to say in the online gaming world - OWNED!!!

Personally, I live in the New Orleans area and had my eye on an 05 vert before Hurricane Katrina came along and wiped them all out...including everything that I had. Anyway, I'll be looking again come 07, but I really want the white vert with navy top - hope that color combo makes it passed the 07 changes. Anyone have any info on 07 colors yet? Been reading the 07 thread, but there isn't much info on colors. Back on topic, it is always humid down here, and winter doesnt last long. The summers are hot, fall and spring are mild, and winter is short. It does rain a lot here, and there are tons of scattered showers where it can start raining at anytime hence the need for a quick electric vert top. Vandals concern me, but I really like verts. I test drove some ZR's and having never owned a vert b4, it thrilled me to death. I have no intention of racing or running tracks, and this will be my daily driver.

Blind spots with the top up are definitely a disadvantage, but you do get used to it. And I find I can use the outside mirrors, positioned correctly, to eliminate most of the blind spots. Another disadvantage, and this doesn't seem to happen to everyone, is the sticking tachometer phenomenon. There is a thread in the Roadster forum that describes it.

That said, I do thoroughly enjoy my ZR.

The coupe is a less expensive car and therefore you have more ignorant trashy people capable of affording it, and hence, more retards bashing on a roadster because they claim that it's, "slower, uglier," or whatever moronic reasons they come up with. (keep in mind, I understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and not all coupe owners are haters)

If all i cared about was speed, I wouldn't have gotten a ZR or heck even a Z.

well these people are probably idiots in other areas as well.

Before I drive my roadie I tune to channel 9's doppler Radar weather channel. It covers about 250 miles of land, so basically I can tell if there's any T-storms near my area or if there headed my way.

btw: unless I get stuck in it I don't drive in the rain ... I drive my other Z ... a ford escort ZX2

Seems the "haters" are on both sides...

Sad, really.

If you're all about performance, you generally don't want a convertible. They are usually heavier and have less frame rigidity meaning more body roll in the corners. I don't know much about cars...my friend races in the SCCA, he told me that.

5. warrantee, dosnt cover it, you can guess why.
My top is always down, even in my garage overnight, because I know I will drive with the top down in the morning. The only time that the top is up is while I'm at work. I leave the top down while I run errands and go shopping. Top only goes up when it rains. Disclaimer: this is used as a summer car.

The finance manager who sells the Nissan extended warranty at my local dealer states the top is covered, as the plan can be purchased as a true bumper-to-bumper coverage. Vandalism of course will not be covered, but your car insurance should cover in those circumstances.

as a former 350z owner, and a current s2000 owner. Having a convertible loses that rigidness. If you want a real sport car, stick with hard top

Can you guys name a few DISADVANTAGES of owning a convertible to perhaps offset the obvious benefits and make me stick with the 350?

easy to break into
heavy
more expensive
never look as nice as the hardtops
expensive repairs/maitenance
you live in toronto
lack of storage space

I like the occasional cruise in a drop top, but there's way too many bad things about them to make it worth it over the coupe IMO.
