Default Need help with my first few mods

Ok its bin 10 days now and I'm going to start moding my car a little bit. I want to make the engine sound allot better and Im going to start with 2 small cheap mods.

1. Cold air intake. 2. straight pipes.

I looked at a bunch online and I do not care if its a name brand or not, I just want a good quality. The 2 links below are what Im thinking of geting, I just wanted to know If you guys think The pipes will fit. or look right. Also the intake im just going to buy a K&N filter instead of using the one they provide.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/03-04...15955416QQrdZ1

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/350Z-...ayphotohosting

Thanks for helping ahead of time. If u guys think the above 2 products are crap and not worth it and should get something els please dont hezitate to tell me. NOTE the sellers have a vary good feedback %.

FIrst off dont waste your money on that intake you will prob. lose hp. Get a JWT popcharger

Second those Test pipes will probably crack over time.

Steer away from the ebay crap

name brands are name brands (USUALLY) because they are good quality and dont crack, break, lose hp, etc....go with something that people have actually recommended....not ebay garbage

I'll +1 on the Jim Wolf Technologies Pop-charger, and if I were you, I'd look at a set of Hi-flow cats before test pipes...check out Random Tech cats...I loved 'em when I had 'em on my car, but honestly if you're going to do exhaust mods, start with a cat-back system. It'll give you more enjoyment than test pipes on the OEM exhaust.

Welcome to the forum.

BTW, does DE have an emissions program?

Oh, one more thing....as a new owner looking to start modding your car, I can't recommend strongly enough that you read this thread:

Both items are crap imo, you'll be much happier going with the JWT pop-charger and a pair of hi flow cats or at least well recommended test pipes.

Also if you look at the comments left for the guy selling the test pipes and go back a few months to June, you will see someone left a negative comment who bought the 350z test-pipes. The comment stated that the item wasn't as pictured and did not get a refund. What is even odder is the auction Started in May, ended in June and the page states that the items will not be shipped for a couple of weeks due to Christmas vacation!!! Stay away from this one!!
That’s my $.02

New members are always hunting for eBay bargains. Join ECZA. Go to a meet and look at other 350Zs. Ask questions.

OH another thing Ive sean the JWT pop charger. Is that now just the filter? or what do I get when I order it online from the site. It dosnt really specify if it comes with anything els?

Em I just buying the filter? or Does it come with an aluminum pipe intake?

b/c I love the sound the aluminum pipe makes over the stock plastic one.

comments plz. thanks for all your great help.

its just the bigass filter...i think intakes for our cars are over rated since the stock box and tube are about as good as any intake system, so it keeps the plastic z tube. still claims dyno-tested 6.5 rwhp gains, however.

^oh and dont worry it still makes noticable sound differences. i.e., the lower rumble at WOT and that sweet spot hissing turbo sound...

Please do not buy anything off ebay for your Z. Treat your Z as if it is your wife. **** it, treat it better than you treat your wife. If you buy her cheap ****, she will get fussy and **** the next door neihbor. You don't want that, now, do you?

My first two mods (and only mods so far) were the JWT Popcharger and STILLEN dual exhaust. I don't know if I gained any super noticeable difference, but it sure does sound a lot better and feels a lot less restrictive. I'd get an exhaust before I'd get the test pipes.

Ok stop looking on ebay, first of all. Use websites such as MyNismo for quality brand name parts that are new. Never trust ebay for anything more than tire valve covers, or occaisonally a license plate frame. There are several good companies listed under the sponsers section of this forum which will be happy ot sell you new brand name items for a fair price. Granted, our cars are not the most expensive cars out there, but you do own a car that 80% of the population only dreams about owning... so spend a little extra and get the right stuff.

Also, start to use the search function a bit more. There are thousands of threads regarding the mods you are looking into. Unless the mod you are looking into is brand new, it has been discussed in detail on this forum. Bottom line, if you use the search function to research the mods you want, you will find a wealth of knowledge including dyno sheets, performance gains, pros, cons, and experiences.

You're going to want to start doin' that more often than creating new threads/posts. More often than not, people will be willing to help you. However, once people see that you are asking the same questions that have been asked hundreds of times before... well lets just say it wont be pretty.

Enjoy the Z!

Oh man, that ebay intake you posted looks like a cheap piece of ****. Buy the popcharger like everyone else said -- best $100 you can spend!
