why do some people rev the engine a bit before turning the car off. is this good or bad. my cousin does it to his auto corvette. what are the advantages and disadvantages to doing this.

One advantage is that it's easier to start the engine next time since there is some unused fuel in the engine. One disadvantage is that if you leave the car for a long period like that, unused gas in the engine will cause some trouble.

Back in the "old days" when I was a kid and they had carburetors, some people used to think that. So, just before they shut off the engine, they would blip the throttle. This has never been proven to help in any way.
So it certainly won't do any good for us today with fuel injection.
