With electronic fuel injection it serves no useful purpose other than to make some noise which could be good or bad.

One advantage is that it's easier to start the engine next time since there is some unused fuel in the engine. One disadvantage is that if you leave the car for a long period like that, unused gas in the engine will cause some trouble.

Now I'm really showing my age.

Back in the "old days" when I was a kid and they had carburetors, some people used to think that. So, just before they shut off the engine, they would blip the throttle. This has never been proven to help in any way.

So it certainly won't do any good for us today with fuel injection.

All best,
Joe

Back in the day all you needed to do was step on the gas prior to starting it to get some fuel to the engine
