Yeah the steel jack is a monster. But I don't know if I trust an aluminum jack... plus this steel one appeared to be lower from the dimensions and pictures listed on the harborfreight website.

The craftsman jack is not necessarily "crap" but it just does not have the lifting range necessary to get the Z onto jack stands properly (even at the lowest rung).

I am saving the craftsman jack for my girlfriend's family and her civic.

The thing that pissed me off was that the craftsman jack stands I bought said they have a minimum lift of something like 13", whereas the jack said it has a maximum lift of about 16" (ballpark numbers) yet it is almost impossible to get the car onto the jack stands.

The one from harbor freight (and the jack stands I bought from harbor freight) are seriously the best tools I ever could've asked for

I actually sprung for the more expensive one because the jack itself weighs 11 Lbs. lees due to it being all aluminum. Easier to carry.

Both of the aluminum Craftsman's have a range of 3 3/4" to 18 1/2". I don't know about the steel one's. I have no problems lifting my car.

Default Floor jack capacity

I am looking for a floor jack for my Z Roadster and have a couple questions.

1. 350Z Roadster weights approximately 3462 lb which equates to roughly 1.570337 ton (although I have seen indication on floor jack boxes in the store that the jack capacity is "1.5 ton/3,000 lb"). Given that, is 1.5 ton floor jack capacity sufficient or does it make more sense to get a higher capacity (2 or 3 ton) floor jack?

2. Anyone bought an aluminum low-profile floor jack on eBay? There are brands such as Harbor Freight, Nevada BlackJack, and Roush Racing that appear to be available new in the $100 +/- $30 range (including shipping).

Does anyone have experience with these floor jack brands? (I already saw comments on Harbor Freight above). Please provide any feedback, comments, etc. Thanks.

you aren't lifting the entire vehicle in one instance, you don't need the 3 ton jack. i bought a craftsman 1.5 ton low profile jack (not aluminum) at sears for $159 i think. i didnt mind the extra weight and didnt wanna pay the extra $40. the craftsman's saddle is just small enuf that it fits in the lift points w/out touching underneath or pressing against the rocker panel. it takes less than 2 lifts to lift it high enuf for the stands.

imo harborfreight has some pretty generic brands and i have heard a lot of problems. however, some ppl have had good experiences with their products. craftsman is at the top of the bottom end of the food chain and i am pretty happy with it so far. if you have the cash go to toolsource.com and check out Mountain's aluminim racing floor jack. a friend of mine has it and likes it (he has a jeep)...however now u are getting into entry level really good quality...

*also keep in mind shipping costs. that itself may cost u a lot bc the jack may need to be shipped via freight due to its high weight. i also went with craftsman just bc i could grab it at sears and not deal w/ shipping charges.
