I am really pissed and disspointed in Nissan with there Tranny's. I had a 3000GT Vr4 and they are famous for tranny problems and I changed to a new car so I won't have any problems beside maintence. Now I am almost not interseted in my car anymore. this sucks ***

Agressively does NOT have to mean abusively.

If the cluch in my Z fails before 100K, it will be the only clutch I ever put in it. It will be time to find a more reliable toy.

What really kills this clutch is slipping it, lots of 1st gear stop and go driving, riding it, none of which IMHO are agressive driving. Positively engaging the clutch with high torque on stock hp isn't going to kill it.

Irony is it really matters how you use it when you're not driving "aggressively".

That said, it is a relatively weak clutch for the engine. All the cars you mentioned I am familiar with in the Nissans; they had clutch spec more in line with the motor. The clutch paired with the KA24DE in your Frontier (assuming you went 4) should last 100k if not abused. It's the same setup as the '95-00 Altima, it's right-sized for the car.

Personally I don't think the stock OEM clutch in the Z or the G is up to the task and IMHO I am guessing 30-60k will not be unusual for the clutch to give it up. Less than 10 or 20k and it's either a) defect, or b) how driven.

Abuse <> Agressive. You can drive the car at 5000-6000 rpm on a road course for hours and not do any damage compared to sitting slipping the clutch in stop and go traffic on a hot summer day in an out of 1st for one hour. That kills the clutch.

I saw a lot of this in late 2002 and 2003 with defective tranny. Usually showed up as cooked 3rd gear (won't shift into or stay in 3rd) or hard shifting from 5th to 6th, and 6th to 3rd, also 5th would sometimes not stay in gear. I'd be suprised if the VIN is from a car in the 2004 or later model year.

My 2003 Z (2002 delivery) was pretty rough into 3rd and made some nasty noises - just wasn't that smooth. My G Coupe has pretty much the same transmission but is a 2004 and no issues. G's also had a load of problems with replacement transmissions in 2002/2003.
