Default 37,500 miles tuneup

I was looking through my mail yesterday and I saw something from Nissan, with a Z on the cover. I figured cool, maybe its an ad for the 07 Z.

Nope. "Thank you for purchasing your 350Z at xxxx Nissan. It is now time for your 37,500 mile tuneup..."

37,500? I haven't even put 6000 miles on this car (its at 37,400 or so now, got it with 32,500).

Anyway I thought thats a pretty pathetic attempt to coax me into $200 or whatever they charge. Anyone else get this BS mail, or was it just the dealer I bought from?

They are right, just because *you* put 6000 miles doesn't mean the car needs 6000 mile tune up. It needs 37500 tune up. Whether it's 37500 cost $200 or not depends on what they do to it. A huge tune up is needed around 35000 miles though.

I think its safe to go out on a limb and say that the car SHOULD have been in tip top condition when I bought it.

And no kidding I only put 6k on it. I wasn't saying that it was based of that, I was just stating how long I have personally had it for.

And what is needed in this "huge" tuneup that you speak of?

Don't take it to the dealer. Read your manual, it tells you what needs to be done at the 30K + mark. Most of it you can do yourself!

I won't hit 30K at the rate I am driving my ZR, about 3K miles a year,

Really it's up to you if you want to do the tune up or not. You can always take it to Jiffy Lube and have it done for $30.

I don't have the list of maintaince items, you can search it yourself. But covers small things like A/C, belt replacement, suspension joints, brakes line, swapping out sensor , etc.

That isn't exactly a "pathetic attempt" to coax $200 out of you. Yes, they like to make money (who doesn't?), but they also have to remind you when service intervals are due. Otherwise, if anything happens to the car, you might be inclined to sue their *** for not reminding you that you didn't read the manual.

I'm sure the car was in "tip top" condition when you bought it. But it sure isn't at the same mileage today, and miles have a way of bringing a car closer to the service intervals recommended by its manufacturer.

You can do this yourself. I seriously thought platinum plugs in todays cars were designed to last at least 75,000 miles or more, I don't understand this!!!!

I would if I had one. I bought the car used and they were going to charge me $25 for a manual. I think I have said before I am never buying a car from that dealer.

The car is running great anyway. I don't really see a reason to take it for this tuneup as they call it -- every time I get an oil change they check the belts and all the fluids etc. At 50-60k I will take it in, but not at this low of mileage.
