Mythbuster did a show on using your a/c compared to having your windows down. The car with the windows down ran out of gas first. That show is pretty good!

Then you need to have it serviced.
My Z has the best performing 134A system I have ever seen.

Hard to image this being an issue. I live in Sacramento which is a furnace in the summer; my ac unit forms ice on my nose!

I try use 'natural' cooling as much as possible. Using AC not only eats more gas, it takes away 50hp and drains the battery.

Most annoying is that engine is not as responsive with the AC on. I can feel hesitation esp at light throttle. I have to adjust clutch engagement by giving it more gas.

Ya man I know what your saying. When I drive, I like to save gas, so I roll down the window. Try holding out you arm at an angle so the air flows into your car. Works for me?
hahah thats exactly what i do man! screw AC. thats for when its REALLY HOTT... i just put my arm out at an angle and it hits your face perfect Wha-La

"ICE ICE BABAY!"

I'd do a rap song, ala Vanilla Ice, but the mental image would scare the manure out of me; let alone the rest of the board!! LOL!

Agree.

If it is 75 degrees out, and your are comfortable at 75 , you better roll the windows up and set the air conditioning to 75 . Nissan could have added 50 pounds of insulation to isolate the interior, but chose not to.

Yeah my Z is a hot box. I dont like using AC and prefer fresh air (well, outdoor air at least) but sometimes I just have to shut the windows and bear it.

Did anyone catch the myth busters that tested this?

"Urban puzzle": it is more efficient, on a hot day, to run with the A/C on and windows up than to run with windows down (b/c of increasing car's drag).

Computer-based mpg measurements:

11.7/11.8 with A/C on and windows up
11.7/11.8 with A/C off and windows up
11.3 with A/C off and windows down

So, according to the computer, it's better to use A/C with windows up.

Who has hit that resonant frequency in the Z that causes the pulsating?
It pounds your head

Recipe:

drive at 60-65mph with driver window only down, no passenger, you will hear it.

I have notice in manual mode that if you idle for long period of time in temp over 100 degrees the A/C automatically shuts down. If you keep the car moving or turn that system to auto it will cycle the system and keep cooling.
I think in manual mode there is an overide at idle in manual mode to make sure your not stressing the engine after 5 mins of idle. I noticed this when I was viewing houses. I would sit out front making my notes on the properties and then the A/C would blow hot. The wife and me thought the dang thing broke. We got the car up to 30mph .... and froze our butt off. It took us an hour to figure it out in 112 degree weather. That was not a happy day. ;(

What do you guys think? Have you noticed this? I like to put it into manual to lower the fan. If you keep the system in auto and don't turn it up pass 75 it freezes you out.
