Considering the amount of depreciation that you will realize on the Z and mark-up you will pay for the M3, wouldn't you rather put a few thousand bucks into the Z and get a nice set of forged wheels or buy a nice chunk of a turbo kit? As a car enthusiast I think that would make me much more satisfied than owning a slushbox factory stock BMW.

I don't know if you know... but as a second owner you wont be able to take your "newly purchased used M3" to the local dealership and make the car CPO.
That's their way of making you buy preowned from them directly,
If you belive in any other warranties I just wish you best of luck,

An M3 will be the only car (at the moment) I will trade my Z for but not really for an older model, but i don´t know how the M3 condition is so, that my opinion!

An E46 M3 for less than $30k will always be a great buy. Excellent engine, classic looks, very nice interior build quality (miles ahead of Nissan here). You'll be getting a car engineered to cost $55k, which shows in everything.
You may want to look elsewhere if that frame damage on CarFax thing is correct.

So wrong.. Own a bimmer for over 60k miles and you'll know how much it cost to repair all their crap. Sensor here bad, computer there bad. It's never engine breaking down, but rather the very annoying $10 computer chips that you've to replace yet the dealer has to charge you $100 for the sensor/chip about 10 times before finding out they've been changing the wrong one for the past 9 times.
Technology has nothing to do with cars. My friend's Honda Civic from '90 will run 10 more years before it breaks down where as '06 ford might just drop it's transmission on the ground tomorrow.
