Question about a Z from an M3 owner
I drive an 1997 m3 (e36 model) 5 speed. Today I raced some kid in a new 350z with an intake and full exhaust (he was auto) My question is, does going from a auto to a stick make that big of a difference in the 350? because with his instake and exhaust and with my car running ****ty, i only had him by a little bit. Thanks!
well I dont know... cause with intake an exhaust I am running 13.7 in my auto. if u consider than a big difference then I unno. I have yet to see a stock e36 even break into 13'z at my track
it's the driver, not the car. Not disrespecting your driving abilities or your car (obviously because you won), but he was probably a decent driver who could push it closer to the full potential than average drivers. As well, he could have a very healthy Z.

I look at M series very Highly
raced a good load of e36s, prolli around 10ish or so. havent had one beat me yet. and im basically stock with 6mt, just have a ypipe back exhaust. i usually put a good 3-4 cars on them. the e36's are usually stock or lightly modded with like exhaust, intake, etc etc.

I used to have a 96 M3 with ECIS intake, Mozart exhaust, UUC stage 2 fly w/e34 M5 clutch as far as internals went some 2 years ago. So i am definitely aware of how the M is comparable however they are two different feels personally. I think the M had more torque down low and felt solid, where as my Z pulls better after 4-5k rpms.
The 350z is faster than an e36 M3, but at a slight disadvantage to an e46 M3. And e36 owner saying they beat Z's every time is either very decently modded or is racing people who just can't drive.
