Yeah, when I was buying my car I couldn't figure it out even though I had the lever in the far right position (6th gear). Just never dawned on me to push down.
When I had a Mustang GT, reverse was in the same position, but since it was a 5-speed it was right under the 5th gear selection. In the Mustang's case, while stopped you'd shift forward to 5th then back to hit reverse. If you didn't do this you'd get a clunk when going into reverse.
You guys are too harsh!!!!! This guy is none of the above!!! He either didn't want to hit the car in front of him, didn't want to scratch up his rims, or maybe he was just in shock of the whole situation.
Poor guy's got the worst situation, his girls there, he's on a steep *** hill, new expensive car, nice RIMS, AT, rubberneckers, and he has a guy taking pics of him.
So what if he doesn't know how to drive stick all great, doesn't everyone begin somewhere? This is a once in a lifetime shot, but what if someone had taken pics of all the f**k ups AT drivers had? I wish that dude was on here to tell the real story.

And I'm sorry, but if you can't drive a standard transmission, you should be smart enough to NOT parallel park on a hill...

That's practically all there is in SF too, parallel parking and hills.

This guy just got in a situation that exceeded his abilities. It happens all the time, but most people aren't caught on camera. I still think he is lucky though. I'll take internet humiliation over a caved in hood (or worse...) anyday!
On a side note, why do we allow people to legally drive a MT without ANY training or certification?

Also true.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THAT!!!!! At my school this guy forgot to put his e brake on, his car eventually rolled and hit a couple of NICE cars. I know how to drive MT but for the specific reason of too much crap to remember all the time I decided not to get it this time. MT drivers should be certified it's too risky, more so on hills.
ok this thread seriously scares me!!!!! I just ordered my car with a stick, and I can't drive one all that great. First gear and Reverse always, always ownz me!!! I hope I don't do that bad though!
Leave the guy alone, i'm sure there's plenty of other people who can't drive well either. I had a quick 30 minute lesson before I picked up my Z. Majority of my friends who drive MT, learned from their first cars. A lot of times, people who get bored with AT move to MT, not knowing that it takes a little time to get used to. But once you drive MT for about a week or two, there shouldn't be any problems. I myself have just passed the 1200 mark, and can't wait to test my baby out on the highway. Woo Hoo. !!!
looks like his rear right wheel is very close to the curb and probably was worried about scratching it like some have said. But, the way that dude wrote a story about it made it funny...

What would you call a guy who takes one hour to get out of a parking spot when it takes a stranger a moment to pull it out? Sorry, but I can't be as nice about this one hehe. I've got chrome wheels and I'm always at least 12" from the curb. If he's worrying about his wheels, he messed up his parking in the first place and paid for it thereafter.
which one of you DB boys was that? c'mon and fess up, we wont ridicule anymore
. anyway, we should lay off him for not being the best driver out there, but a WHOLE HOUR???? it took him a whole hour?

on another note, can anyone really tell if this whole process took a whole hour. maybe by looking at the shadows and the position of the sun??????? i dunoo
. and also, do you think that he could smell burning clutch all the way from where he took those pics??? i guess part of me thinks that this s2000 dude exagerrated his story.

I'm sure he did exagerate it some, but you CAN look at the shadows and tell a significant period of time passed. That was one of the first things I did. They move like half way up the car.

Er, no, you're too nice. But, with a username of Buterfly, that's to be expected.

Anyway what does Butterfly have to do with me being so nice? They just happen to be my favorite.
