I feel for the guy, I have now had my Z for 6 months tomarrow. When I first got it I didn't know where the nose was, couldn't see well out of the rear and had to get used to the blind spots. Like anything, after you drive it for a little while you learn the size of the car and you get your mirrors adjusted so that you can see to negotiate backing up etc. Even now when my fiance occassionally drives my car he says, how can you see to back this thing up, he is actually quite timid about it( probably knows I would "kill" him if he crashed my car or backed into anything. The car was probably very new and very foreign to him, as was the level that the clutch engaged. IMO Marcy
What do you mean 350Z drivers are really dumb, don't you drive one yourself? This guy probably just learned how to drive stick and it's really difficult in the beginning to start on an incline. That doesn't make 350Z drivers idiots.

Someone forgot to tell him to push down on the shift lever to go into reverse and he's too "studly" to read the damn manual. What a dumbass. He roasted the CRAP out of his clutch, too. I feel SO bad for that car...

I'm slighly confused because my post was it's own thread... then moved into this one. I guess I was slow to the punch.
*shrug*
Ya, this person is very easy to make fun of. However, I think this guy is a hell of a lot cooler than someone who just buys a sports car with a slush box (SMG & F1 excluded) and never even tries to learn how to drive a standard transmission. I applaud anyone who has the ***** to buy a 6-speed without knowing how to drive it at first.
Now if they know how to drive stick, but are too stupid to figure out that you need to push the shift **** down to engage reverse well then yes, they are a dumbass and should be appropriately ridiculed.

Maybe the wheels were stuck against the curb and he couldn't go back w/o scratching the hell out of them. Still scratched wheel is better than fried clutch or scratched hood.
too bad for the guy but funny for the rest of us.

I did think it was weird R wasn't on the shift ****, and the salesman at the dealer pointed out to me how to get into reverse.
Actually, why isn't R labeled on the shift ****?

Well, I've driven stick before, but I never was in a car where you needed to push down on the stick to engage reverse. Most standard transmissions have reverse off to the left or right without pushing down.

Of course Reverse is labled on the shift ****- see the picture below. And the "push-down" on the shifter is not unique to Nissan - I've driven many VW's and Audi's that have this too. I still think this person isn't so slick- as this feature is clearly noted in the reference card that comes w/ the car (7 things you need to know... or something like that) and in the owners manual. Of course maybe this isn't their car or something like that...
