Good find. As usual, after the calculations I was wrong about a few assumptions I had made.

My results yielded 1194.93 pounds of thrust vs. 1193.80 of stock form.

The linear acceleration 0.389g with the weight reduction mods vs 0.374g stock.

My power to weight = 10.7 vs 11.1 stock.

The stock form of the car has to make about 297hp to produce the same power to weight ratio of my 3065lbs car.

The lightest 06' in question had the spare removed (as did most guys this day), and a stainless single 3" exhaust. The other 06' was on par with others with no weight reduction. They arent any heavier than other models, believe what you want....

Yeah, that article posted talks about a Z weighin in at 3500-3600 lbs. That is giving us a bad reputation as porkys. If you commented about my post I was talking about my car, not the 06. I read the thread you guys were at a track and weighed them all.

IMO unless you truly plan on/are tracking your Z than this weight issue is moot b/c the only way to reduce it to where it is "acceptable" is to carbon fiber the hatch and all the body panels and personally I would not like driving a "fiberglass" car on the streets of Dallas....

Question for ya.. I checked out the specs for my 03 base, and it lists the curb weight as 3188lbs and gross weight as 3815lbs... That's a HUGE difference! what is the actual difference between the two? spare tire, tools, gas?

Gross weight = the amount the car CAN weigh... with you, your old lady, the dog and set of golf clubs.

Anymore than 3,815 lbs and your car is a rolling hazard.

WTF? where are they getting these figures?? off of Honda-tech.com???
Are they looking at the Roadster or G35??

There is a serious misconception about the Z's weight on the internet?

Just look at Wikipedia and they make statements like " the z is criticized for being extremely heavy."

"Extremely" heavy? From who? Who the hell thinks Z's are "extremely" heavy? Lotus Elise owners??

I dont think Z's are heavy, my car in race trim, with minor weight reduction and 75lbs of turbo kit added weighed in at 3125lbs
can i ask ya what you did to achieve 3125lbs WITH +75lbs of turbo equip? that sounds great if you ask me...

RX-8 drivers trying to justify why they got a "four-door family car" with a rotary instead of a sports car with a V-6.

(Edit: There are times that I wish I had back seats, though. I did look at the RX-8, but Nissan re-introduced the Z and made it in a great yellow color, and made it possible for me to get my "dream car" 30-odd-years on.)

It's not that heavy of a car, compared to everything else it sits with in the market today. People are just more inclined to criticizing the Z because it only sits two, and exudes prowess and agility. Something that excess weight shouldn't be associated with.

oh thats good to know hey btw zephyr whos that girl on ur avatar shes hot as fu***

It does seem our car is a bit heavy. I have an 06 base, curb weight 3339 but my buddy's 05 STI curb weight is 3263. Considering that his is a 4 door AWD sedan... it really gets me wondering. These numbers are from automotive.com

I believe the definition of curb weight is no passengers and no fluids of any kind. That includes oil, tranny fluid, washer fluid, brake fluid, gasoline. Gross weight is when the car is fully loaded with passengers, cargo, and fluids. Its basically the recommended cutoff for maximum weight in the car.

Has anyone tried scraping out the sound deadening tar under the carpet? I did this in my Supra, and it turned out to be about 45 pounds! I wonder if the Z is at all close to this.

The Impreza’s white body is pretty stiff too, but I don’t think it’s has stiff as the Z’s. The sedan body is pretty much hollow.

Look at the Z’s white body construction. Integrated rear strut tower mount, a huge center cross member in the rear console plus the box shape around the fuel tank. Plus all the melt sheets (sound deadening), underbody air flow management. The car is relatively small, so chassis components must bit pretty stiff to protect the occupants in case of a crash. Thanks to some hot stamped bit here and there, it’s not that heavy.

Like some already mentioned, consider the cars MSRP of 27k and it’s impact on the design and material selection.

A Corvette Z06 is lighter. But it’s pretty much all aluminum, magnesium and has a balsa floor! The interior garnish have about half the number of mounting clips that other manufacturer uses. Hello rattles down the road (not that ours is impervious to that…).

The car feels heavier than it is in part because if it steering. That steering is heavier than most grocery getters we learned to drive in. But it’s similar to that of a BMW. Drive an NSX on day, and you’ll notice that the steering is even heavier, yet that car is relatively light and pretty nimble with it central engine.

Or drive an Elise one day. Very very light car, with quasi telepathic steering and controls. But a PITA in daily drives!
