Why does everyone complain about the 350z's weight?
Why is it that everyone always complains about the 350z's weight? By everyone I mean people that don't have 350z's. I mean I know its heavy, and I know that if it was lighter it would be faster, but if it performs well and it drives well then why does it matter? It just seems like alot of people don't really respect the 350z they always seem to find some reasons to push it aside.

Being im 6'4 Im glad the Z is a big car, if it was smaller I wouldn't be able to fit in it... So 3300 lbs is not bad considering its size...
There's no winning with critics, if they made it smaller to lower the weight they would complain it was to small.... The 350z is one of the best selling sports car in the world right now... There's a reason why.... It appeals to wide market..

It is a bit porky because it shares a frame/components with heavier cars in the Nissan/Infiniti line.
When you look at a Lotus or a Z06, you get an idea of light in relation to power. Weight is the enemy of handling, braking and acceleration. Heavier car equals bigger brakes, tires and engine to get the same performance as a lighter more nimble vehicle.
Light doesn't mean small, but it does mean expensive- aluminum and carbon fiber aren't cheap.

different Z models have different weight. 2006 Z packs more weight then previous years.
Mine: 2004 enthu coupe with manual is around 31xx lbs with 18 inch te37 wheels and lighter exhaust.

I think people are complaning well more like wishing. If the z was lets say between 22 and 26 hundred poundz it would be a whole different monster. The N/A car would post quater times like the FI cars do now and the car would be a major playor in the sports car world challenging auto makers like porsh, bmw, marcedes and so on. yeah its looks great and yeah it handles great and yeah it goes like mid to late 13's stock. But the z would be a mid 12 second car if it were a mear 26 hundred poundz. And lets not metenion the accleration with minor modz like the clutch and flywheel the z car in my eyes would have the potntial to be one of the best cars under 30k of all time..
To me if it were that curb weight with the same hp and tq weight it would get seriously respcted by all auto makers instead of some a$$hole in a bmw driving by saying cute car! as opposed to honey pull over and let him pass show that guy some respect!! LOL
In a way i think nissan was pinched, and as much as i love my Z they cut a few corners to make production. like the weight issiue, the way the car squeeks with all the plastic parts, the interrior could have stood an improvment, the ECU and the beathing problem at high rpms sometimes i can feel my car strainning at WOT.
But if they made the car perfect most of us on this site would not be able to afford the Z so Ha! there is my reason.
but this is just my opinion so flame on!!!

^^^ Yeah I agree with that. However when you consider that you can get a Z for 27K its pretty damn good. Theres not a ton of cars that offer as much performance for that price.

Most threads have addressed WHY the 350z weighs as much as it does.
The thing that drew me to this thread was because the OP asked "Why is it that everyone always complains about the 350z's weight?"
It's not that heavy of a car, compared to everything else it sits with in the market today. People are just more inclined to criticizing the Z because it only sits two, and exudes prowess and agility. Something that excess weight shouldn't be associated with.

Yeah I understand why its heavy. I wasn't asking that. I just don't understand that people will agree it performs well, but then cast it aside because it's heavy. Yeah its heavy but if it performs well it shouldn't matter, its just a number.

Because the Z has a great engine, great looks, great suspension, great brakes. The only thing that spoils all of that is the weight. The heavy car dulls the potent engine. The tall stance ruins it's look. The suspension have to work harder because it's heavier. The brakes cooks easier because it's has to slow down more kinetic energy.

Yeah there are definite tradeoffs in everything. If the Z were lighter we would not be able to afford it! NISSAN decided to make the car more afforable by using cheaper interior parts and focus on spending the R&D money on the engine, body, etc. With a fancier interior the car would have prob been a few G's more. They made a great move. However, I love my touring...I just saved a little weight by getting a Braille 11lb battery, lighter exhaust, etc...

06's DO NOT weigh anymore let alone 200lbs that is commonly reported online and by Nissan. We had a track day with 30+ Z's and we weighed almost all of them. We had 06' Z's weighing in under 3200lbs and heaviest was 3280, right on par with other years. I dont think Z's are heavy, my car in race trim, with minor weight reduction and 75lbs of turbo kit added weighed in at 3125lbs
