i know the new gen rotary (rx8) stands not a poor man's ***** chance against our Z33s, but (with mods included) and price being limited, would our Zs top out Rx8's bigger brother, rx7 on a track??
i havent heard much from JDM tuning companies that tuned the Z33 to a insane extent, but i have heard the RE Amemiya RX7 is a beast!

I'm not going to lie to you, I've seen some very, very powerful RX7s on the streets. I know this one cat that bring his to the track, he has about every mod you can get for RX7. Now, when it comes to a streight line he got me. But a circut or time attack type of race, I own him.
So Z's a great all around car. And RX7 is for power. But hey I might be wrong. They are people out there who lives and breathe Z's and RX7's.

I'm extremely biased, but i believe the FD would beat the Z. Lighter, lower center of gravity, and the ride is very firm already. On the highway i can cross 3 lanes of traffic or more going over 80mph with no body roll at all. I know this is different than a track, and i've never been able to drive a Z like that, but i wouldn't count the FD out.

I would stick with either the Z or the RX-8, not the RX-7. Good luck finding a well running, low mileage rx-7. With the twin turbos, they are a risky investment. It could get expensive very quickly to replace any parts and to keep up with maintenance. The RX-8 is a pretty good buy if you are into rotaries.

with the rx-7 maintenance is gonna be a biotch! plus gas mileage sucks on rotaries as well. If you can afford to maintain an RX-7 and the price of rpemiuim then i'd go for the FD3S.

My Rx-7 story for ya. This one guy in college used to always just drop by my house to chill and being that he was a bit of pill head would fall asleep on the couch. So one time he does his thing and passes out while coincidentally another friend of mine is over who knew this sleepy guy a little better. So sleepy had just bought I think a 93 rx-7 turbo (this was 01 btw) with 17k miles for $17k, thing had apparently never even seen rain let alone snow, one rich owner who had 10 cars, one of those stories. So long story short we run his pockets and take his keys to the rx-7 and just cruise the thing all over morgantown for like an hour, come back, he's still asleep, put the keys back, take a bowl of chronic out of his other pocket and balze it up.
I loved the thing but would still take my Z.

RX7 plus turbo S2000 motor FTW
Junk the rotary ---- hard to tune and the apex seals are the first to go POP
Stick a piston engine/drive train in an RX7 chassis and youll have a mean handling machine thats as reliable as your drivetrain of choice
Honda combo --- pretty damn reliable

I love rx-7's and i'm pretty sure stock for stock they'd beat a Z, straight line or on a track. However realistically speaking, there's no way i'd own that car. When it was brand new, maybe i would've bought one, but now that they're over 10 years old, hell no. Unless you're a skilled mechanic who likes working on rotaries, do yourself a favor and dont buy one.
