Default "Fairlady" came before the 240Z by at least 5 years

The name pre-dates the Z. Today it just means the same other than any other changes specific to a JDM car.

The cars sold as Datsun 1500/1600 here were among the first if not the first to be called "Fairlady". They pre-date the "Datsun 240Z" by at least 5-10 years. The best was the "Datsun 2000", 150 hp roadster with many cool features, esp the 1967 1/2 SRL311 Comp (1000 made). The last one was sold in Canada for certain, not sure if you could buy one in the US in 1967. Very cool car and no slouch with its light weight, 8000 rpm tach, 160 mph speedo...

SO, sorry, the Fairlady name was on at least 3 sports cars before the Z...see the following link:
