I'm sorry about your wreck but I've seen this all too often, the Nitto 555 is a horrible tire in the rain period. This has happenned to numerous Z's even the older ones, such as the 300zx. I switched out to the Potenza RE720/30/50's over the years and refuse to put another tire on my car at this point.

I live in Houston and when it rains, it really rains but yet I have 0 problems and at 360rwhp/411tq they are pretty damn sticky and well the rain meh no problems almost like driving when it's dry.

My KDWS NT are slippery when the tires aren't warm. I have to drive at least 10 miles to warm it up otherwise when they are cold I will break loose with TCS on.

One question,
I hear people say all the time that they get aftermarket bumper/wheels
instead OEM when their car is repaired from the accident.
How does that work out?
If it takes too long for OEM parts to get to the bodyshop, I rather
go for the AMUSE replica that I've always wanted before.

Also for my wheels, My bodyshop guy asked me for the invoice of the wheels
so he can put it in the estimate.
According to my knowledge insurance companies don't cover aftermarket wheels.
Do I still have a chance at getting new set of wheels?

 

Over 5 years of owning a 300zx TT I have found that the Potenza RE720/30/50's have been the best know tire that I can find that will provide great wet/dry traction, and don't cost a fortune. Now the one thing that you will hear people constantly bag on is the treadlife, there isn't much of one depending on how you drive. (10 - 15k)

 

I had the same thing happen on Nitto 555's, thankfully i slid harmlessly into a grass median w/o hitting anything.

 

I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but you have to be really carefull when it first starts to rain because all the oils in the road will rise to the surface making it very slippery..

 

My insurance company covers the car as it was. If i wreck it...they have 2 options...

1) give me enough money to cover all damages and return to condition of the car prior to wreck
2) buy me a car equal to/better than my car prior to wreck.

Here's a fact...insurance companies WILL try to screw you over. When they come back w/ a lowball offer, say, ok, nevermind, find a Z that was in as good of condition as mine, w/ all the options mine had...that's what i want...just find me the replacement. They usually will then cut you a larger check b/c they won't be able to find one. At this point, instead of paying the body shop to order new OEM pieces...just go online and order the aftermarket parts you want (Amuse in your case)...and have the body shop install those. The body shop will most likely still charge you the same amount of labor for install/paint/etc and you will spend the same/less (usually) on buying your aftermarket parts compared to the OEM parts. In the end, you will sometimes walk away w/ money left over.

The key to doing this is usually getting the insurance company to cut you a check directly as opposed to paying the body shop...

Right here. It rains almost every day here, and I find that the car is more predictable with it off. People just have to learn how to drive and respect their car.

 

Or not run Nitto drag radials aka 555's in the rain.

I can see that someone who drives in the rain all the time is going to be better at driving in the rain. So good for you for knowing how to drive and respecting your car

But if you drive with the VDC on and "get used to it" it is much more stable against the tail end coming out, and that is a fact.

YOUR driving may be predictable, but OTHERS' driving is not. That is why I use VDC in the rain (only).

 

Wow, iam sorry man. That sucks I was 18 wow i feel old and something simmilar happend to me on my RX7 except it was totald frame shift sucked i kno.

Man i love those tires but if your telling him that they would have helped him your crazy. my 18s i had on the z had those tires and they dont like rain at all
