OK, it's not a Lamborghini? why so much H8 for the Z
i thinks lambo's and ferrari's get more respect.. just cuz EVERYONE knows what that is, Z's are more so of a mid class rich kid/mid-life crisis sports car.. so other kids are real gay about it, i know before i got my Z and i saw a kid my age like 18-19 driving one i assumed his mommy and daddy bought it for him, which isnt the case for me at all, im 19 and i bought my own Z, but i think thats the relation.. in my eyes.
i agree that our cars are freakin nice..lol but i think many of the people who get their cars trashed might be getting it for a reason. people tend to lie about personal matters. maybe the were screwing someones girl etc. just my opinion. i had my cars trashed a couple of times back in my highschool days but there was always a reason
Vandalism happens to all types of cars. Sometimes the flashier ones get picked on more just because they do what they were designed to do. Catch someone's eye. Sucks when the person attention it grabs is some a$$ hat...

It's not like it is a fking LAmbo, Ferrari or Maclaren. I mean the car is everywhere and by now the 03's are in the 19K range to buy.....so whats the deal???? Pleez give your 2 cents, and think before you post.
I doubt the Z that got painted was only $19K. Lots of the ones that get messed up are modded.

Well, all I know is that whatever our fears are, is usually what will happen to us. So if some has a fear of their car being dadmaged, then that usually happens. Considering we control our own destiny, I'd be sure to eliminate some fears.
I had fears that all kinds of stuff would happen to my Z when I got it, and sure enough, things did. Then I decided to Bump that idea and deal with the fear; things begin to quit happening to it.

I agree that people are extremely ignorant about what a Z costs. The Ford or Chevy monster truck they bought typically costs the same or more. In the absence of fact people typically operate on one of two assumptions, the stereotype or for the slightly more critical thinkers, history.
Stereotype: The more impractical a car looks, the more expensive it is.
Historical: The previous Z and other 2-door sports cars have traditionally been expensive, therefore this car must be expensive.
The Z is viewed as a luxury to most, as they don't feel they could sacrifice the people or grocery hauling of their minivan; it would have to be a second car. Second cars are very expensive when you consider maintenance and insurance!
We also see our vehicles as our hobby, which a lot of people just don't understand. They will spend thousands on their hobby of choice, but don't get that maybe we are happiest doing so with our vehicles.
All of the above can breed feelings of contempt in someone who isn't quite satisfied with their lot in life, especially when fueled with blatant material excess like flashy wheels, body or paint work and a loud stereo.
One more thing I will add is that your personal attitude is probably the number one factor re: whether or not someone will f*ck with it. I would say, as convinced as some people are that a stranger did something, more often than not, it is someone they know or know of.

You know, I was actually thinking about this while I was working out at the gym this morning, as its been a hot topic lately. Here's what I was thinking. One of the theories I see most often is that people hate/vandalize the Z because it looks expensive, and they're jealous, think they can't afford one, etc. That certainly may be the case in some instances, but I'm somewhat skeptical, because there are plenty of other cars that are and/or look more expensive, and I'm not aware of them being targeted like the Z. I'm not aware of Porches and Mercedes being huge targets for vandalism, for example. If jealousy of perceived wealth were the motive, I would think we'd hear of 911s and M3s getting screwed with all the time. Could be just me, but I've never heard of these other cars being habitual targets for vandalism.
I'd like to suggest an alternate theory. People find out how relatively inexpensive the Z really is, and get bent out of shape that they spent just as much (or even more) on some other vehicle, and got much less bang for the buck. So at that point, they feel humiliated. They feel stupid. They feel outsmarted. Thus, if there's any jealousy involved, it's not so much jealousy of wealth, but jealousy of others' intelligence and resentment at being humiliated. 'Oh crap, why didn't I think of getting that car? It's so much quicker! I spent just as much money on this Prelude and these cars routinely leave me in the dust! Oh, I bet the guy who owns this Z thinks he's so smart; he must think he's just so freakin' great! I'll show him!' SPLAT!!!!
Just a theory, but in my experience, people get far more bent out of shape at the thought that others are smarter than them -- especially if they feel like they're made to look like fools in the process -- than they do at the thought that others have more money. Let me put it this way, I've never gotten into a scrap because I had better clothes on my back than someone else. I have, however, gotten into scraps after humiliating people by running circles around them in some argument (and they're always the ones to throw the first punch, in case you're wondering).

I got my Z for 22k and I get hate b/c the car just looks expensive. and the ppl that vandalize it dont notice that its a 30k car b/c they are un informed or vary financially unstable to even research cars at this price range.
the Z's looks is what atracks the haters.
obtw.. 350z #1 car for under 30k by C&D

Thier not, you have to look at the bigger picture, you are from U.S.A you know what the minimum wage is here right? 5 or 6 dollars. well if Australia has a higher minimum wage that the U.S. well then the cost of living would go up ( this includes cars ) The australian dollar is worth less than the American dollar because there are more of it. so, if in aussie they make more money, the price of everything will go up, understand?<------it sounds expensive to them, because thier economy is not on the same page as ours.
did i explain this ok?

The Federal standard is $5.15. In some states, it goes up to the $7 range. In San Francisco, it's actually $8.50. There are variances, of course, but it looks like the average is right around $6-$7 per hour. That's USD, of course. So once you convert to AUD, it's what? Around $8 or $9 per hour? So it appears that Australia's min. wage is actually lower than what it is in the U.S., which exacerbates the price differential on the Z in Australia.
EDIT: Sorry, I may have mis-read your note. I read your note as saying that the min. wage in Australia is 5 or 6 dollars. Having said that, looks like the min. wage in Australia is $13.27, which is around $10/hr in USD. So the argument does make sense after all. MY BAD!
