And more teens/younger people own them as well, again because they are more affordable. People find out how relatively inexpensive the Z really is, and get bent out of shape that they spent just as much (or even more) on some other vehicle, and got much less bang for the buck. So at that point, they feel humiliated. They feel stupid. They feel outsmarted. Thus, if there's any jealousy involved, it's not so much jealousy of wealth, but jealousy of others' intelligence and resentment at being humiliated. 'Oh crap, why didn't I think of getting that car? It's so much quicker! I spent just as much money on this Prelude and these cars routinely leave me in the dust! Oh, I bet the guy who owns this Z thinks he's so smart; he must think he's just so freakin' great! I'll show him!' SPLAT!!!!

Just a theory, but in my experience, people get far more bent out of shape at the thought that others are smarter than them -- especially if they feel like they're made to look like fools in the process -- than they do at the thought that others have more money. Let me put it this way, I've never gotten into a scrap because I had better clothes on my back than someone else. I have, however, gotten into scraps after humiliating people by running circles around them in some argument (and they're always the ones to throw the first punch, in case you're wondering).
