Default Honeymoon Is Over!

A Nissan dealer, in MA, just sold a brand new 350z Track, on eBay, for $5,214.00, less than sticker!
See:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...406033197&rd=1
A search of the Nissan.USA website reveals the dealer, Ira Nissan, has 10 new 350z's in stock.

What would Invoice on this car be and how much would the seller have to pay E-bay to sell it there?

5200 below sticker is below invoice, that makes no sense unless it was a used car

Rough figures- invoice is around $31,500. minus holdback of around $1050.
eBay fees are around $200.
Dealer either sold at a loss of around $300. or there is additional dealer money from Nissan to dealer ( perhaps because of bad weather ) or there is an incentive bonus ( auction specifies March delivery required ).

Read the auction.
Car is listed w/ 10 miles.
Moreover, that specific car is shown in dealer's new inventory on Nissan.USA web site.
Also, buyer has 395 feedback rating, which does not indicate a sham bid.

Invoice on a track z is 30,627...msrp is 34,079...and the car sold for 30,300 on ebay, making the car 3,779 below sticker...so basically, a dealership is selling cars for less than they paid for them, meaning theyre losing money. What kind of sense does that make

Those are the only ways I see to sell that car for that price w/o losing money. Maybe, someone, more knowledgable than I, can enlighten us?

I say the dealer is going to flake out on the auction. NO businessman in their right mind will sell a car for less than cost.

Keep in mind the car is under invoice... and that doesn't factor in for the ebay fees that he has to pay... so hes taking an even BIGGER hit.

Ebay can mean killer deals. The dealer may have taken a risk on the auction (or made a mistake). I'd be suprised if they didn't honor it though, that would just be bad business.

I agree with Jason.
I don't automatically assume everyone in the car business is a liar and a cheat. Moreover, the buyer lives in nearby NH, so he or she has relatively easy access to MA Courts, if necessary to enforce the contract.
I'll watch for the feedback, from the parties, on eBay.

Dealerships have a credit line. If they have too many of cars on their lot, they are unable to bring in new cars. In order to free up some of their credit, they have to sell cars. In this case, I think the dealer was clearing out to bring in some roadsters.

Dealers DON'T buy cars at INVOICE. There is a 'Dealers Cost' which is way way below the Invoice. An there is the actual manufacturing cost which is almost 55% of the MSRP.

Look at the sticker on that car, the car had additional items, making the sticker price go over 35K+

That's only one car and it had to be for a special reason. You can't just go out and get a deal like that.....unless you're Dave Ramsey, of course.

Dave Ramsey would tell us we were all dumb to by a new 350Z and to go buy a used Honda or Chevy. With cash of course.

Default Just for your information guys....

...I live in MA. There is a foot of snow on the ground, salt on every road and 350Zs sitting in inventory and not moving in dealers all over the state. Of course the same thing is true of every other brand and make of sports car up here too.

A few other thoughts. I have lived in Texas and Chicago and travelled all over the US and I dont think I've ever been anywhere with less of a car culture. People here tend to be conservative and even during spring and summer I see fewer sports cars on the road than anywhere I've ever been. So demand for sports cars isn't very good here even during the summer.

If I was looking for a Z and lived somewhere they were in short supply and/or over list I'd come up here and drive one home. You'd pretty much have your pick of anything you want and you would definitely shave at least $1,000 off list - and probably more. Prices will definitely rise once spring comes and the thaw arrives, but until then it's a buyers market for sports cars.

negative..... ebay fees for autos, boats, planes, etc are $40 to list and $40 once sold.

Does not matter what the unit sells for... a Gulfstream GIII corporate jet sold on ebay for $1.8 million a while back. The seller paid a whopping $80.

Not bad considering if he had got a broker to sell the plane he'd have paid about $180,000 in commision.

In my $200 estimate I considered the extra charges for featured listing, etc.
