Bad judgement

When I took my first Z test drive... the salesman asked me the same thing, and I'm a young white guy, so I doubt racial profiling had anything to do with it. I think they ask that so they can get a feel for how far they can bend you over. I didn't buy from that dealership anyhow... the salesguys were jackasses. That question is not what pissed me off though.

There are many reasons why he could have asked that question.
1. He wanted to gauge what you can afford and maybe suggest to you a 2006 model instead of the 2007 model.
2. He wanted to see if you were serious about this deal and just not wasting his time to just test drive a new car.
3. He wanted to make small talk with you.
I believe it is number 3, it's ususally number 3 for a salesperson, trying to get closer to your customer. They couldn't care less if you were a doctor or a drug dealer, selling a car is selling a car.

Maybe he wanted to know what you do for a living because you don't seem too "together". If you tried to speak to me the same way you typed that post, I'd probably just walk away.

Everytime I've bought a car a salesman has asked me that, its a standard question.... I find it funny that people are so sensative that they always think race is the reason they get asked certain questions....
BTW, I don't see how asking what you do for work is to personal... And his remark about being a drug dealer was probably his attempt at humor, but still inappropriate to say when conducting a bussiness deal...

My theory... Dude... you didn't even know that the 07s aren't out yet. Not till January. Dealer knew that, so he immediately assumed you were a poser, no offense, and questioned you!

He sounds like a typical Down South racist good ole boy F*cker... I wouldn't do business with them EVER + I'd write a letter of complaint to the general manager of the dealership and recommend that they fire his ***.
