Default Bye Bye Tranny!

Well here is the deal, lately I have been having a problem getting into 3rd gear and yesterday I could not get in it at all unless I tried really hard. The gear would get about a 1/4 of the way in and grind like crazy so then I would just have to go to 4th. My friends and I were listening to the car as I would go through the gears and you could hear like a tumbling sound and popping as I would go through each gear. So I took the car to the dealership this morning and I was explaining to the guy the sounds and what was happening with the car so he started to inspect the car. He was looking for aftermarket mods done to the car then he got to the wheels, he said the wheels could have affected your drive-train since they are larger than factory, I was like WTF are you serious he is gonna try to pull this. He then goes on to explain that they have replaced about 3 or 4 tranny's already up their for the Z, two of which were my friends cars, he said he will try to see what is going on, but it will be a day or so before they can determine anything. So hopefully it will all work out in my favor, but who knows. What's pisses me off the most is that I never rac my car, drive stupid, try to drift are anything like that, I drive it like a grandma and this happens what the hell.

Good luck but I'm sure you won't need it if it's still under warranty aftermarket wheels or not.

The tranny is a common problem with the Z....if he doesn't warranty it....I'd call Nissan. Then beat him up after he gets off work one day. haha. jk

I ran into this exact problem, well not as severe as yours. My tranny still functioned, just annoying. And they didnt service the warranty due my JWT Clutch and Flywheel, but I never heard of the aftermarket wheels being the cause. Man, I hate dealerships. Its all good now though, I put in the new 06 tranny and I'm loving it. I hope everything works out for you.

That is total BS if he doesn't warranty it because of some aftermarket wheels. There is no way in hell 19" wheels would screw up the tranny, you can get 18" on them from the factory.

My '03 had a tranny put in it before I bought it (got it used). I am hoping they put in an '05+ since the car was fixed somewhere between fall of last year and spring of this year.

Tell him to find a job flipping burgers because he purposely doesn't know *crap* about cars. I've had it with that sort of dealership treatment. I'd pop off those wheels before they curb it.

Thats called BS and there are federal laws out there protecting consumers
from this crap, I had some idiot at a dealer in Manashole tell me that if I put anything such as an air intake on my car (JWT) that it would void my power
train warranty. I laughed and then told him that he was at that very moment messing with a federal laws by telling me that, he shut up mighty quick. Dealers are like idiots who dont know there head from there ****'s.

people please get the facts straight. 03 trannies are not defective in any way. in fact mine runs like silk til this day. i honestly believe the 350z tranny issue is over hyped and mostly due to user error.

Umm ok maybe but you do a search on this thread and find out how many people with 03' or any Z to that matter have had tranny problem's. I don't want to hear no "user error" garbage like that, do you work for a dealership or something because you sound like those genius's up their!

what happens if your tranny breaks, and your warranty in up? Since this is clearly an issue, do you think nissan will extend the drivetrain warranty?

You must be Joking. I am on my 3rd tranny in 32K miles. I have NEVER replaced a tranny on ANY car in my life. In fact, I have never even had to replace a clutch on ANY car and many have been driven for 100K plus miles. My current beater 1995 Corolla is @ 141K miles and the ORIGINAL CLUTCH. user error????

Probably not, however most 03s still have a year or so Drivetrain warranty left. Just check your original in service date
