Ticket for my tint
I just got pulled over the other day and written a ticket for my window tint. Its a 140 dollar ticket, thats more than both my 15 and 20 mph over tickets. Has anyone else gotten in trouble for you tint?
I've had 5% on my last 3 cars and never gotten a ticket for any of them
Sorry to hear about yours tho, that sucks. At least he didn't make you remove it yourself on the spot, i've heard of that happening.

yea man, no fun. In my last vehicle I had 5% on all around and got plenty of tickets. Most of the time I had to pull it off in front of them so I didn't get another ticket, then I couldnt roll my windows down untill I scraped that glue off which is very difficult. This time on the Z I stuck with legal, 30%

You're welcome! Dark tint in the rear makes it harder to see FHP [W/out roof lights], when they are sneaking up on you at night.

ouch.. 140... that's one good thing about CA then.. 20$ tint ticket...
i had mine for over a year and the cops basicly ignored it... Superblack Z with 35% tint all around and 65%? on the windshield.. i let my gf drive it for 1 week and she got pulled over for not stopping all the way at stop sign.. along with tint ticket

Tint in my city is $90 and I write plenty of them!
I mostly cite ppl for tint to help them with their driving record. I would stop them for speeding, stop sign violations but instead write tint cause its a 0 pts violation.
Then there are those who have 5% or less which I will cite cause its a safety issue for the drivers and for officers. When I pull someone over and I can't see inside, i make them roll down the window before I approach. I'm not going to end up dead just cause someone wants to look cool.

But the funny thing is you see cops with 5% all the way around. I inquired and they said its a safety feature to protect the cops!
I wish I had a $1 for every infraction I see cops pull every day, I would be rich. It really amazes me to see a cop not think twice about speeding, not using a blinker, yielding at stop signs, lighting up to go thru a red light then turning the lights back off so they don't have to stop, not wearing seat belts, ect, ect, ect. And the sad part is when we complain, their supervisors covers it up!

Not saying all cops are like this, hell I am applying to be one when I retire from the military next year. I can tell you this, I will never be a hypocrite when it comes to writing tickets thats for sure!

I don't understand what you mean? It's his job. Being a cop isn't Miami Vice every day. Writing someone a ticket for a seatbelt violation or tint violation rather than a moving violation is the best for both parties. The cop appears to be doing his job to his superiors, the city/state gets its money, and the driver doesn't pay an insurance surcharge.
And tint is certainly a safety issue for cops. Would you walk up to the window of a vehicle 30 times a day if you couldn't see inside? It's like playing Russian Roulette.
There is no arguement for tinting your windows, other than to make the car look good. I hate the attitude of cops when they pull me over, but I would side with them all day long for giving a ticket to vehicle when you can't see in. Thats just common sense that a cop would be a bit hesitant and maybe pissed off with that vehicle. He wants to see your hands and you want to be cool. Its his life on the line.

+1 I've heard this many times. Customers complain all the time that the "Cop pulled me over just for tint" and my first response is...so what else were you doing at the time? Speeding perhaps? Or some other moving violation? Rarely will they admit it, but some actually do.
There are some cops who do have it out for tint, but they're pretty rare from my experiences. Mostly, its just like this, they gave you the tint ticket b/c they were being nice and not ruining your driving record. And you're pissed at them for what reason again?
Every customer who has there windows tinted (legal or not) gets specific instructions on what to do when you get pulled over.
1) Turn on your interior lights
2) Roll down the windows
3) Dont make any "shady" moves and wait patiently for the officer to approach you.
We say this because typically an officer will not be too picky if he feels he can safely see the occupants of the vehicle and what they are doing.
Its a safety issue for the officers and the jobs they do, so I have no problem making every effort to make them feel as safe and comfortable as possible while they're doing their jobs.
And as far as 5%. We NEVER recommend that. Leave that stuff for the Limos and govenment vehicles.
%5 FTW! I've got 5% in the new carbon tint on my Z and I love it. Can't see into the car but visibility out of the car is almost exactly the same as when I had the old metallic 30% tint.

also try not to use the carpool lane over the baybridge in SF. Troopers issue tint tickets.
