stupid question but how does a RWD car understeer????

Nebolic... RWD, FWD and AWD cars all can understeer. Think about it this way, if you go in to a corner with your foot off the gas, the type of drive has very little effect on the understeer or oversteering characteristics of a car. Most cars are designed with built in understeer for safety since most drivers are not very good at recovering from oversteer and will scrub off speed if they enter a corner too fast in an understeering car.

The weight distribution of the car has a lot more to do with understeer than the drive type. If most of the weight is in front of the center of the car, the car tends to understeer or turn less than it should in a curve. Staggered tire sizes and different anti-roll bars front and rear can be used to fine tune the handling.

It is true that a RWD car can be made to oversteer with the engine, but that is consider power oversteering, power sliding, drifting etc. For instance, if you mash on the throttle too much in a curve, the back end tends to come out.

try to keep this thread alive and updated on how you're liking the Z as opposed to the s2k in the next couple weeks. im currently in the same position, i want to get either an s2k or 350z by year's end and haven't made my decision yet. i currently have a 93 300ZX and would love to stay a Z owner but all i hear is good things from s2k owners. ive obviously driven both by this point and the decision is very hard. 2 totally different feeling cars IMO

To me it seems like if you’re choosing a car as a daily driver, go for the Z. If you have another car, and don't exactly need the extra trunk space and added comfort, then go with the S2000. A nice competitor to both these cars is the Saturn Sky Redline. Let me ask you, after test driving both, I know you mentioned that they are very different, but be a little bit more specific. I am just curious.

well as somebody previously stated. the s2000 makes you feel like you're "one" with the car. the s2000 feels more like a go-kart to be honest. it is pretty tight inside, not very luxurious, and very loud. It definitely feels like if I did a lot of auto-x racing that the s2000 would be my pick hands down. but I don't, I do a lot of highway driving, im a pretty big guy (6'1"), and I like comfort. I want something a little more comfy and luxurious than my 93 Z and a little sportier than my previous car (01 Maxima SE 5-spd). With that being said...the 350Z seems like the obvious choice, but I haven't made my decision yet, and the S2000 is significantly cheaper. I can get a low mileage 00-02 S2000 for around $18k. and most of the low mileage Touring package 03-04 Z's I found were $20-$21K. That is pretty much my price range right there. I have looked at the Saturn Sky Redline but the Redline is out of my price range for a new one and to be honest, I liked the 350Z better. The only things keeping me attracted to the S2000 right now are the price and the fact that you can beat the **** out of it and have them not break. and I am attracted to convertables and cannot afford a Z roadster. Any pursuasion from the Z community is welcome, haha

Good reviews about the S2K! I do have a Z, but am also an S2K fan. The Z is probably a little disappointment coming from a supercharged S2K, but congrats on the purchase and welcome to the dark side!

oh yes, they do. I saw them with around 25,000 miles for around 30k. this was a really nice mercedes dealer and the internet department was just trying to get the car off the lot. Owner traded it in on an E series.
