From S2000 to 350Z
Well I came over to the "Dark Side"
I owned my s2000 for over two years and eventually was just looking for something with a little more room and comfort. Well so far I am loving the 350Z. Although power wise the cars feel relatively the same (I've had some pretty neck and neck runs with a couple of friends in s2000's with the 350Z inching away on the top end and the s2000s (lightly modded) holding me off until about 100) there are pros and cons of both. Coming from the true enthusiast S2000 I thought that the handling in the 350Z would feel sub par. Although I have to admit that the 350Z does have a bit of understeer and doesn't quite compare to the s2000, the handling has passed my expectations. Anyways, I have fallen in love with the leather power seats (heated) and I love the looks of the 350Z. The only three things I miss from my s2000 (not including the Vortech SC) is the handling, transmission (IMO Untouchable), and the more connected feeling to the road. Other than that Im loving the comfort the 350Z 35th Anniversary has brought me. But anyways I look forward to being an active member on these forums. I couldnt pass up the deal on the 35th it is in flawless condition other than a few small curb rashes (repairable).

I wasn't aware we were the "dark side"
As far as handling, it's a much heavier car. Drop on an FI setup and a few suspension mods and you won't look back. The Z will just outpower the s2k in all respects (especially low end torque).
Oh, and nice 35th.

Congrats on the purchase, the Z will definitely grow on you. I'm sure after some suspension mods you'll be more satisfied... Don't forget to put some wide tires on the Z too, that'll definitely help a bit

I came from a Civic to a F/I Prelude to an RSX Type-S then my Track 350z. Its been a change. Each car has its own things I like/dislike. Your on point about the transmission. Honda's have the best ones imo.
But, the Z is my favorite of the bunch overall.

I had exactly the same thing to say about the difference between the S2K and the 350Z on performance in another thread on this discussion board. I truly love that gearbox and the true race car feel of the S2K but the trunk space was a little too cramped and I felt just a tad claustrophobic on the inside. Otherwise the car was fantastic. The Z has a bigger, slightly sluggish kind of feel to it but you'll really appreciate that bigger feel on a road trip. I knew I didn't want to feel that cramped for 300 to 800 miles with the top up or feel wind blasted after having to drive that far with the top down. I've put over 270,000 comfortable, trouble free miles on my Acura CL 2.2 (longest single trip from Key West FL. to Cleveland OH.), so it's time to trade up.

I also came from an S2K to the Z. Re. the handling, my wife said that in the S2K, she always felt like she was part of the car, whereas with the Z, she feels more like she's riding in the car. And I agree with that assessment. Now, she meant this as being a positive thing for the Z. Me, not so much. I'd rather feel like part of the car, because the converse of that feeling is that the car feels more like an extension of my body.
Now, the 'feel' of the car notwithstanding, there's a paradox at play. The S2K felt more 'razor edged' nimble but had a twitchy back end with a propensity to break loose really easily (at least my '02 did). The Z doesn't feel as nimble, but actually sticks much better. I've taken corners in the Z at speeds that I know would have sent me sliding in the S2K. The Z? It just holds the corner like there's super glue on the tires (and I had the same Michelin PS2s on both cars). Now, I have broken loose in the Z, but the slides are progressive and controllable. With the S2K, it's much more violent; when it breaks loose, there's no gradual, progressive slide. It just lets go completely. You crank in the opposite lock and just hope for the best.
Anyway, I've concluded that roadholding is what really counts. Let me put it this way -- I'd rather feel slightly less nimble in a car that goes where I tell it to, vs. feeling nimble as I hit a retaining wall or go sliding sideways into a ditch.
