my uncle did this for his pathfinder. he try to trade it in for maybe 17k but the dealer only offer him 12k and he got pissed off and yelled at them then left. the next day they called him and accepted his deal. oh by the way the pathfinder was a 96 with over 100k miles.

You loose money as soon as you sign the papers and drive off the lot, even with a brand new car. Although it does sound like as one of the other guys has said the dealer is being more than a little greedy. If they are anything like dealers over here, they work together to screw a deal and try and force your hand. Sell privately if you can. Good luck, but you know you really don't want to sell your zed.

I love the car.............I'm probably not going to end up trading it. I got it while was making some fairly decent my money but my company shut down so I've been struggling finding employment that compares to that.........Like I said, I love the car but I really need the truck.........it would really minimize my monthly expenses with the lower insurance and smaller payment. But then again, I think I might keep it............I still I should have been offered 23-24 though........I got the car for 28, almost 29...........when I say coupe, It's because that's Cartrader uses as a description for base model............it has cruise control and the side airbags...........and other little ****..........I GOT THE CAR MAINLY FOR PERFORMANCE............and it just the best bang for the buck..........

A few days ago I traded my '06 Enthusiast model, Interlagos Fire, Nismo equipped (wheels, exhaust, shift ****) for a stock low mileage R32. Dealer gave me $24,800 (ouch) trade in. The dealer then listed the Z on Autotrader for $30K+, but since then they have lowered the price to $26,471.00; which I think is a fair price if one can negotiate them down from there?
Reason for selling the Z was based on excessive oil consumption (but it seemed to use less oil when I reached 5K miles...I did not want to take a chance with this issue), too heavy flywheel effect and bumpsteer, or something like that. Inspite of those issues, the Z is still a great car with excellent potential...but I didn't want to mess with it. Maybe the '08 model will beckon me back? Enjoy your Z's!! Vic

I have an 03 Touring w/nav. Im not gonna try and lie and say its in mint condition or anything. It has a few dings on the doors, and chips of paint here and there. Only about 5% of cars are even considered to be in mint condition anyway. I was offered $22k for it for an 01 Z06 at a dealership and about $19k for it for an 01 Infiniti I30 at another dealership. Sometimes a dealership is only gonna have enough money to play with in a deal depending on the car your trading it in for. This is the problem with trading in a car in the first place though. I hate doing it already. Its like doing two deals at once. One for the car you want to buy, and one deal for your trade-in.
This dealership that you are talkin about must be small time place, or they are just trying to clearly rip you off, because that is just rediculous.

It was a Mossy Nissan in Oceanside Ca, the same dealership I bought the car from. I was going to trade it in for another Nissan...............So they were going to keep my business.............it's just sad that they would try to screw me over. I went in with the intent to get a fair deal and was willing to take 22-23 for my car. I was willing to work with them, but it seems like they weren't that interested or that willing to work with me.

They should give you close to what they are going sell the car for anyway. They are still going to get their profit from selling you the new vehicle. They are just trying get over on you in getting a nice profit already on the Frontier, then another big profit on low balling you on the Z.

If your going to make a profit (and stay in business), you need to buy at wholesale, and sell at retail.

Probably need to try another dealership or if you want to go through the hassle, private sale. I found out that trade in price can be based on the number of factors; if the dealership is already flooded Z's, trim, and time of the year.
Some of you guys already know my Z is gone. I had it up for private sale for a week and when it came time to get my new car I figured I could just trade it in for the right price. So hear are the details: 2005 Enthusiast w/ 26k miles in great shape. I was able to get $20k for the trade (I was fighting for $21), oh well.
I dealt with Performance Nissan and they were good to deal with. I didn't mind driving 40 miles to buy a car since I got a good deal.

It's almost impossible to trade in a car nowdays. Even at Carmax, they go mainly by the WHOLESALE AUCTION VALUE. My thought is that if they tell you, "we can get this exact same car at auction for X amount", you tell them "I'm not an auction and if you want to use wholesale values then you need to lower your prices a LOT." I understand that dealers are in business to make money, but some of these places have gotten ridiculous on trade-ins. I don't mind them making a FAIR profit, but giving someone $18K on a car they're going to try to sell for $26K is not a fair profit. That's just straight up @$$ raping the guy who trades the car in.
