Question 350z Pricing Scam?

Hi Everyone,

Here in California a 2006 350Z Touring Roadster is around $38,000 as the manufacturers suggested retail value (for a new car). You should be able to purchase the vehicle for a lot less (which I have found with other dealerships). One dealership is charing customers $48,000 to $51,000 for the car (which is used but relatively new as it has low miles on it). I looked it over....it is NOOOOOOOOOOO different from any of the other touring 350z at other dealerships. I find that to be a little insulting if not rather ridiculous to customers. Is there a law that prohibits excessive selling tactics? What prohibits dealers from selling cars for $80,000 if they really wanted to? I'm guessing there must be some sort of regulation?

Very curious....

any ideas?

Jason

that is called dealer profit. look at the GT500 right now. they are selling them for double the price. it books near 45k but people are paying over 90k because it says shelby on it. i would expect no different when people start selling the GTR. obviously no one is going to buy their markup Z. over here, an Evo MR is going for 10k over book and they call it a "northwest adjustment". the other Evo's are going for 7k over book. what a rip!

But there will only be a small amount of GT500 made (2 be dealer) so why would a dealer sell such a rare car at MSRP when people will pay much more

Fact: It's only worth what people are willing to pay for it.

As long as there are idiots willing to pay $50,000+ for a Z dealerships will keep trying to sell them for that much.

I absolutly expect that when the GT-R hits the US people will be paying $100,000+ for it.

Mark my words.

SVT is making up to 10,000 units a year of the GT500. that is around how many 03/04 cobras they made in their production years. the price will come down when the hype comes down. remember when the new 05 mustang came out? people were paying up near 50k just to have it. the car was mass produced anyways and people still paid stupid money because there was a "shortage" of GT's at the time.

What is stupid about the GT500 is, that the 03 and 04 Cobra's are just as fast.

03/04 cobra=390hp
GT500=500hp

not to mention the GT500 is a shelby product. therefore it is worth 10 times the book value for no reason lol! you can almost buy an original GT500 for the price some of these clowns are paying. hell i could buy a mustang GT and get the cervini's eleanor kit for it and still be cheaper than what some of these people are paying.

who cares about a stupid mustang. they want to overprice those POS then let them.. the whole topic is about dealerships overpricing a Z. and if anyone is stupid to pay that much for one, they deserve it. (even going more than $1000 over msrp is paying too much)

There is an answer to it. Don't buy. But as long as someone will, they will charge it.

Personally, I refuse to pay MSRP. I guess that keeps me from buying certain cars, but so what.

As soon as I see something like "market price adjustment" I take a walk.

Nope no "regulation" But there is no "regulation" that says you have to buy it, either.

Its pretty hard to sell anything for more than the buyers are willing to pay. Its called the law of supply And demand.

The S in MSRP means suggested. Sellers are free to ask any price that they wish. The asking price is legal as long as all the costs are disclosed.

And of course you are free to make an offer: any number that you please.
