In 1986, I bought my first brand new car - Volkswagon GTI. The first time I parked at a mall (within the first month), someone keyed the hood with a big swastika. I was sad.

But on the humurous side, just below the swastika, they keyed in large letters "Knotzi".

Once I got over the initial grief, it became quite a funny showpiece until I had it repaired.

Lots of good posts in this thread. I especially liked Zboy's list and c350z's comments. Regarding Zboy's list, no conflict between 3 and 9. Always park next to a more expensive car, is not contradicted by never park to a less expensive car. You have no control over who parks after you park, so whenever you park, you park next to the more expensive car. The more expensive car is already parked, so he is not violating the rule of never park next to a less expensive car. I also agree with c350z, I plan on keeping this car 10 years and putting a 100K miles on it. Most likely, based on my history, I will then buy a 2012 Z. I want to have as few dings as possible, but dings WILL HAPPEN, and I am not going to spoil my enjoyment of this car by obsessing over them.

 

I am not overly worried about door dings either. From my experience, the more you worry about things, the greater chance of them happening. My friend just bought a 330Ci and he is so paranoid that people are out to get him and his car he built a new garage with steel beams over the windows and super heavy duty locks (and we live in a very low crime area). He also doesn't want people to sit in the seats because it will squish the leather, and if you do sit in the seats you can't wear shoes or a belt. I'm not going to worry myself silly over what COULD happen, I'm just going to enjoy my car.

 

Oh, the irony: vandalism with bad spelling, and you can't spell the name of your own car! (That's "Volkswagen" )

Not really. Bring your car over to me. I will park it real close right next to a nice big SUV. I will then proceed to open the door of your car slaming it into the SUV faster than you can say, "Sh*t!"
