Question Drepressed Clutch Growling

i have a stock 06 ZR only 1k miles on it and it's getting close to about a year that i've had it since it was in the garage for 6 months since i bought it with a once in a while joy ride.

But now that i have been driving it more often i have noticed that when i get it up to 4k-5k rpms, such as when merging onto freeways, going up a very steep hill, etc. and disengage the clutch, it make a growling sound. It sounds just like as if my foot is still on the gas and the engine is still turning.

i took it to the dealership and they said "oh its the characteristics of the car" and that they had no idea what i was talking about. but when i got there and tested another Z it made no growling whatsoever.

i was thinking that perhaps the throwout bearing was loose or something. does anyone know what the source of this sound could be and where it might've come from?

Any insight would be much appreciated. thanks

(P.S. scroll down to my last post for more info)

I've had the same noise occur when I first bought the car.
In my 3rd week of owning the car, I got a new tranny and clutch
because of throwout bearing noise(turned out to be normal).
Ever since my new tranny, the noise you're describing stopped.

well i've been battling it out with the nissan dealership here for about 2 weeks now. they seem to be trying to get out of replacing my tranny. just today i finally took it back from them and they did nothing. they are giving me the hardest time on convincing them that there is a problem. what should i do? i threatened the lemon law at them and that did no good. i called a lawyer and they said to take it to another dealer, which i am going to do. has anyone had this much problem with a nissan dealership? is it just my dealership here? this problem is giving me a head ache has anyone tried the BBB Auto Line phone number that's in the warranty info book and did it help any? im really in a jam here, if anyone could help me out it'd be much appreciated

thanks

You do know that the engine is still turning even though you press on the clutch, right? I'm not sure what exactly you are trying to describe.

The only thing I can recommend is reproducing this for the service manager. Take another Z for a drive and see if makes the same sound.

i have taken another Z for a drive, it made no sound like mine does whatsoever. i know the engine is still turning, but it sounds like as if your still hitting the gas. i did reproduce it for the manager, and he said it was the characteristics of the car, which i know isnt true becuase i test drove another.

Throw out bearing is my best guess, but I never really heard it while driving, mainly when stopped. Take it to a different dealer.

If that is the case, then ask him why none of the other Z's make that noise. Or do what others have said; visit another dealer. Keep us updated.

well i have that sound as well, if i understand you correctly, when you gas pass 4k, after pushing the clutch and letting go of the gas to shift, it makes this distinct noise as if it was spooling or something like that. i personally like the sound, and asked my friends if it was normal, and they said i should be fine, but if you find out that its something that needs to be fixed, you can keep me updated =D, i just my Z about 1 month ago and it only has 1.3k miles.

I've noticed this in my dad's 06 as well. To me, it sounds like the intake is sucking in extra air. But who knows...

well today, i went to another dealer just to test drive another Z and it is very obvious that there is a problem with my Z. it sounds like it is spooling or something and when i test drove the other 06 Z roadster, it makes no sound at all. so tomorrow, saturday, im going to go pickett outside the dealership that i bought the car from, Dublin Nissan, and hopefully they will give in wish me luck if anyone else has this problem, please post, i am planning to go with the lemon law, and hopefully get my money back and buy an 07 Z

thanks for all your replies!

in California, the lemon law is very easy to do, just need a problem for the dealership to fix and give the car to them. if they dont fix it or convince you that there isnt a problem within 30days you can use the lemon law. and right now, they havent fixed it nor convinced me that theres nothing wrong. =\
