Free mods
Go on a diet. It's the cheapest weight reduction method out there. You will save money on food as well. Then you will have more money for real mods.
Remove anything that you can: Spare, Jack, etc.
Seriously though, there really isn't that many free mods for the Z. You gotta pay to play.

Ok I got one. It's not exactly free, but it doesn't get much cheaper. I did this on my Spec V a couple of years ago. Get some tint spray paint at your local hobby shop and tint your tails, reverse lights, and front corners. If that's your thing. I haven't decided if I am going to do this myself.
My buddy came up with a really cheap mod ($10) .... go to Home Depot ( or any variant) and purchase flexible duct hose. Use it as a homemade ram air system by connecting one end to the air cleaner box and run the other end down into the front of the grille. he got silver tubing which you can see, I am going to look for tubing that is black, or paint it black myself. Just my 2c ( or in this case my $10...

go to home depot and buy a hose connector and make your own coolant bypass. makes the incoming air colder.
Wrap the intake tube with header wrap or insulation wrap (whatever they call it) to isolate it from the heat.
take apart your plenum and clean up all the casting and polish it up, port match the neck
use brake ducting (it is normally orange for some reason) it is a flexible tubing and feed it to your bumper inlet to the snorkel to the airbox.
spraypaint your stock wheels (do a good job... lol)
remove your rear wiper and get a plug (a guy sells painted ones here for 16 bucks or something) that is worth three pounds and looks zexy (more aerodynamic as well!)
use 93 octane if you don't.
these should all be very cheap.
