hmm my car burns some oil (a quart every 2000 miles or so). I broke it in according to nissans recommendations. If i make a warranty claim, i'll break my next engine in hard according to motomans article and see if that makes a difference.

I had to replace two quarts on the first 2,000 miles. I then had the dealer do an oil change at 2,500

I took it back to the dealer and they are doing a test on it. Told me to bring it back after 750 miles to check.

I'll check it out at 3,250. Frankly a quart of oil per 1K miles doesn't concern me that much. But I just wonder if it will get better or worse as time goes by?

Nissan knows about the problem!

Nissan was forced to pay you!

LOL! It is a new car! You never should have had this problem! Nissan should have given you a new replacement or a 100% refund!

My 1990 GMC Sierra w/ 160k burns 3 quarts of oil for every tank of gas. That somewhat concerns me. If my Z burned 1/2 quart of oil in 3000 miles I would be pissed. If you have a 06 w/ oil problems, get it taken care of now.

I have heard a lot and paid a lot of attention to this, but had not heard of this. Where did you hear/see this? Thanks

A quart of oil every 1k should be a great concern. Actually as few miles as we have, there should be 0 loss. I have never owned a car that burned any amount that was noticeable within the recommended oil change mileage. Of course, this will also depend on how hard you drive the car too. If you race it, you will burn a bit of oil for sure.

I was once sitting on the edge of a cliff overlooking a parking lot and a beach just sitting there eating some lunch and a man rolls into the parking lot of that beach with a lingenfelter corvette and just along the walk way there was about 20 people kicking a ball in a circle. The man pull right up to the walk maybe 15 or so feet from the people, sat there for about 30 seconds then put it in reverse and parked 3 rows back about 100 feet. Guy didn't even get out of his car and here comes the ball sailing right for him and smashes into the windshield, didn’t look like it did any damage.
But the point is **** happens. Making yourself walk the extra block or how ever far away you have to park, Isn't worth the effort. If it’s going to happen it’s going to happen. Hopefully when it does you won’t have some *** sitting above you laughing like I was eat a sandwich. Had he left his car where he FIRST parked, it would have flown right over his car.

Well that was just a weird ocassion. Im pretty sure something is less likely to damage, or put a dent in your car, when your parked away from everyone and their cars. Plus there was 20 people kicking a ball, that doesnt happen to much at malls or other parking areas, unless you are at a park or something like that.
Just my thoughts.

I know the whole point of my first post was that **** does in fact happen, and try as you might it will happen to everyone sooner or later. His post just happens to have sparked that ironic memory of mine is all.

Default burn it leak or whatever ---- it still is lost oil

I have posted several times my attempts to resolve this without turning the car in.

Here is the summary:
Purchased Jan 31, 06 - returned to Nissan Nov 6th, 06
19800 total miles
In shop 9weeks total,
When I say a babied the car during break in I mean I did not redline it. My shift range was 4000 – 4500. always keeping it in the 2800 – 4000 range (guy need power and torque) The last 1000 miles I did bring that shift range to 5500 – 6500 NICE…………

Oil consumption
Average 2qrt per 900-1000 miles from first oil change
Lost all oil pressure with 1500miles on second oil change
Factory engine
1 short block
1 complete engine (everything but lines )
2 oil coolers
2 oil cooler seals
PCV kit

Additional issues
Passenger window blows out for no reason (window down in door with top down, part in front of my house, no dents in door, not covered by Nissan)
Window rubber melts to door glass and tears (yes it is hot in AZ but not that hot)
Door windows leak
Shift issue reported on the first oil change (dealer told me I was high)

Folks I wish I could have kept it but I could not live with being in rentals more than my own car. The Z is by far the best looking and handling car I have owned or seen on the streets ( in this price range) Loved it but need to step away.

Lemonlawaz.com for all your lemon law answers. Talk to Ian Pryor This was clean and simple process if you document your service calls. Stand there and watch the tech check the oil and make sure it is on your paper work each time you go in.

Have fun with your Z’s and I will continue to wish I had kept mine………

Wow! I do not blame you one bit. I am actually having these problems with shifting almost always before 4000 and 4500 seems to be my max at the moment. I am intentionally taking it easy to see what happens during these tests. I also am 90% highway cruising at about 65. The dealers always like to blame it on hard driving, but I think I have that convered. It really does not seem to matter, it just burns through oil.

Well, looks like I will soon join you. It sounds like your experience was pretty successful. I only have about 5500 miles on mine and just started the process today.

I plan to get an 07... wish they still had the old blue but maybe I'll stick with silver or see how many cops I can attract with the new "orangy" color..lol.

The still do have the old blue (Daytona Blue) including a new darker blue color (
San Marino Blue).

My Z was built in Dec '06 so it qualified as 'early built rev-up'..I ran real hard until 400 miles and babied it until 1200 miles after I got a warning ticket. My first oil change was at 800 miles..and I do not have this oil consumtion issue.
also 35th annniversary and '06 Rev-ups are same engine..so this statement is incorrect..

Interesting...

The currently theory by Nissan is that it affects all REVUP motors with 6MT (that's per the tech line) and the symptoms are worsened with more aggressively driven cars... hence my approx 4 qts in 1000 mi...

All nissan is doing right now is handling this issue with case by case.
If nissan admits their fault on this oil consumtion issue, then it will be a recall on engine which I highly doubt unless they get sued big time by someone with serious injury by accident due to blown engine.
