IZOOM article - AT preference and exhaust tuning...
The hits keep coming...

Interesting comment in this review.
"This may seem like heresy, but there's enough low-end torque (around 200 pound-feet by a mere 1,200 rpm) that we found that, except on the most tightly twisting roads, we actually preferred the five-speed automatic transmission over the six-speed manual, in part because of the engine's outstanding torque curve and the car's responsiveness, in part because we continue to find an awkwardness to the 4-5 upshift and 5-4 downshift in Nissan's six-speed manual."
And although the folks from Nissan said both versions have the same exhaust tuning, we thought the tones from the twin pipes of the automatic-geared Z were louder and deeper."

I agree blueshift, first time in a while I have felt at ease with the auto tran. Though I love driving with a manual tranny, certain requests laced with underlying guilt trips made me pick the auto. Sure it helps while driving 2 mph in bay area commuting traffic, but I was worried about low end torque and a delayed response from when I hit the accelerator to power transfer to the wheels. This review gives me reason to think that my worries may be with no merit.
On a side, I went to the infiniti website to look at G35 stats since they share the same chasis design. Only available with an auto, it is listed with 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds (from motortrend). The car weighs more (i am pretty sure), has 27 less horse power, and was not meant to be a complete sports car like the Z is. If they are able to get the auto Z to run a 0 - 60 in less than 5.9 seconds I will be extremely satisfied.
The excitement, if posssible, keeps building.
Cheers,
Tubbs

exhaust sound
Anybody driven the automatic and manual that can verify the claim from this article?
I'm glad this article brought some peace of mind for you guys. I was actually considering an automatic, (have never owned anything else) and didn't for whatever reason.
I think you are going to be very happy. We all know there will be aftermarket demand for AT should you ever decide to sell.

nice plus about the auto... too bad I could care less hehe Real sports car = manual :P (yeah so I'm opinionated - sue me!!)
Awesome article - the car didn't really blow this guy away but I think they really like the all around performance. Yeah, again, lose some weight seems to be the theme but hey... as of lately, the Z hasn't really been a light weight roadrocket - it's been a cruiser. We are not back to a solid mix of cruiser / racer IMHO.

"The new Z car weighs in at 3,188 pounds, so the engine isn't pushing around a lot of unnecessary weight. "
