If the z is your only vehicle and you need to get somewhere you will need snow tires. I was out in a mild, <1" snow last year and could hardly move the car. I ended up parking it and had someone pick me up. Now if there is any snow in the forecast I won't drive the Z. It does have summer tread tires still however.

Lots also depends on where you live in Chicago as they get "lake effect" snow. If you live south of the lake in the Gary/Hammond area all the way south to Park Forest you'll end up with a bunch more snow a year than if you lived in North Chicago or out in the western suburbs.
Sort of like the Seattle area where Everett will get lots more rain than areas to the north or south - the storms come straight off the Sound and nail Everett.

You guys do know that it isn't snowing anywhere because I bought snow tires, right? If I didn't buy them, you would be sure we would be getting some blizzards. Murphys Law ftl. So far, a clear waste of $570 (and that was at wholesale) for winter tires all around.
And are you really going to blame global warming on the 10 degree temperature difference this year? Lol ok. If thats the case, we are in DEEP shit. Just a moderate winter, if you can even call it that. Its almost January, and hear in CT we have had one dusting of snow, thats it. Most of our snow doesn't come until late January/eary February, but we have usually gotten a storm or two by now. 42* right now. 10 Day forecast says it will be 45*+ every day from now until the 5th.
