It's still a small price to pay to walk away. I'm sure your son got alot more out of this, like a healthy fear of driving drunk.
Glad you and your son are ok.

No kidding. Just call it self defense. "Well, Officer, he tried to kill me with his car, so I was just protecting myself."

That guy should get life in prison with no parole.

I'm glad that the two of you are somewhat ok! Ever notice how in dui crashes it's usually the drunk that's unharmed and the victims are the ones that end up hurt or dead?

Wow, when will these people learn? I think the penality should be attempted Vehicular Homicide when someone is caught driving while drunk!

I heard somewhere that the reason the drunks usually walk away is because they don't clench up in preparation of the impact (due to being barely concious anyway) whereas the sober person braces for the shock and gets whiplash, fractures, etc. as a result. I could be wrong though.

It's called "drunk man syndrome" your body is so relaxed that you don't get injured like you do when you tense up. A good friend of mine was walking through a parking lot in Vegas, and was hit from behind by an SUV. Doctors said he would have been hurt MUCH more had he seen the car coming, and tensed up. They said the "drunk man syndrome" may have saved his life-

Although I Googled it and found nothing.

You won't need gap insurance if you sue him and his insurance co. They can argue that the car isn't brand new anymore and that they are paying KBB Value. Your lawyer should argue that it'd still be as you bought it if their moron client (who will probably be on their bad side anyway for driving drunk) hadn't hit your car. Take them to court and get another car. It'll probably never be the same if you don't.

Just a guess but looks as if the damage is in the $ 20,000 area. Suspension and frame seem ok. Just a guess da ment. They will have to tear into for the final verdict. Looking at 6 weeks.

I got the police report. The driver was uncooperative with the police. He didn't give his tele # for work or home or give his insurance information.

My insurance will send a letter to his address and if he doesn't respond in a week my uninsured motorist will kick in. At this point my Co. will have to sue him to get their $$ back. The uninsured motorist insurance will pay my medical and lost work as well as pain and suffering losses.

Guys a real scum ball he is 48 and both his brothers are in jail.

Can't wait till he goes before the JUDGE with a second DUI. At least that as much as I know, he could have more.

Hope he rots in jail.

Boomer GT, I am sorry for what happend and it really sucks. I own my own trucking company and know what you mean by experiance. My father has over 30 years of CDL Hasmat experiance him self and that is hell of a long time. I don't drive my self but i have others drive for me. I move cars cross country for dealers. These guy's that drive for me have all at least 5-10 years or realy life road experiance and the story's they and my dad tell me is just wow.

I my self am 22 and have done stupid things in my life but never gotten drunk and behind the wheel. I agree with you that these bastards that do drink and drive should get harder of a punishment.

And then YOU would end up in jail...for a WHILE...

Sorry about the car, but it is just a car. At least you and your son are OK with minor injuries. And thank you for not "taking justice into your own hands" as the guy I quoted claims that he would. That is always a bad move, and will always leave you in a much worse position than you would have been otherwise.

Boomer GT - Sorry to read about the drunk bastard busting up your ride.
Good to hear you're both are all right. I hope you get the Z fixed or a replacement soon.

***I think the last thing on Boomer GT's mind right now is selling off parts***

The main thing is you and your son walked away from the car Boomer GT, semi of unharmed. Sad about your zed.

At this time of year, these drunken idiots seem to feel it's even more okay to get behind the wheel, even more so than normal. Hopefully one day, cars will be intelligent enough to know when someone isn't fit to be driving.

Keep us posted on how you get on.

Thanks for all the good thoughts.

I never thought of going after him but I sure gave him an earful a couple of times while waiting for the cops.

Best wishes for the new year.

Drive safely.......................
