Took my 04 Z Enthusist into Browns Sterling NISSAN for an oil change and to check out a noise( when taking foot off throttle, sounded like a fan comming to a stop?). They informed me I needed a new engine because I was burning oil, not leaking, and also losing oil pressure. They replaced the whole long block all under factory warranty!! They also installed a new clutch and only charged me $400 for the part. Couldn't believe that Nissan stepped up that big!! I was very impressed to say the least.

One question for you all: One service writer told me i'm good to drive it how I wanted. The other told me not to go over 3k RPM until 5k miles!! Whitch of course would be tourture..

Any help would be appriciated

I have heard to take it easy but my dad beat the he!! out of his C5 the day he bought it new, he was wide open and sidewys out of the parking lot of the dealarship. Put 104k on it and never had a problem...104k very very very very hard miles. He drive like he is road racing the entire time.

 

rev, but rev slow for the first 500 miles to break in the clutch. Vary your Rs making sure you put the car under load and let the motor decelerate instead of throwing her into neutral. Your rings will thank you later. Change the oil often to get the metal shavings out and drive it like you stole it after you break in the clutch.

 

When doing speeds over 55....do not stay at the same speed for any length of time. Just varible speeds. I bought my ZR in Tenna. and drove home to Ohio...the highest I had was about 85 only for a few minutes. Good Luck!

Just curious. How many miles did you have on the bad engine? Did they explain the specific problem causing it to burn oil and was it running badly in addition to the noise?

 

Wow. But yeh 5k is recommended. 1500 and you may be ok but to really stress an engine it sets in definitely around 5k

 

I had 41k on the old engine...Good question on why I was burning all that oil and losing pressure? Should of asked but was too excited I guess? I'll check with them today and re-post later

 

Wow kudos to that dealer. I had the same situation and it took me over 5 months to get my new motor. Car was using almost 2 quarts of oil in 500-600 miles. My Z is an '04 Base with 33k on it now, had about 25-26k on it when I noticed the problem maybe 3 weeks after I bought the car. But serious nagging to Corporate Nissan does yeild results, new motor goes in next week

 

Thanks for the review of the dealership. I bought and have had the maintenance done by passport Nissan off of Van Dorn. After hearing this I will not be taking it back there.

nice.. browns is where i got my car 2 weeks ago and their great..! do you guys know if the 06 has that problem too..? its getting me worried..!!!

and on the topic of new.. i have 600 miles is it ok to push it now..? i always heard you should hold until you hit about 1000..

 

Yeah! If the engine has a defect it really will not matter. Just drive and enjoy is my advice.

to dbasal... it's not about the engine having a defect... you're right though if the engine has a defect it's not going to matter.... but that's beside the point.

A good way to get the clutch broken in is to do a lot of casual stop and go driving.... driving on the highway won't do anything for breaking in the clutch. Avoid hard starts or going full throttle. As far as the engine... accelerate (half throttle or less should be plenty) then engine brake.....accelerate then engine brake....over and over.... no real need or benefit to take the RPM over 4k.

After 500-1000 miles of this you should be more than ready to rock.

Obviously, under ALL circumstances, always let the car get to operating temperature before flogging it. I know that is common sense, but you would be surprised how many people don't know/follow this... (very common cause of premature engine failures) they start their car up stone cold and beat the **** out of it.
