How fast have you driven in a car?

Now, we've gotten away from our original discussion of road vs. track driving as far as safety is concerned. But, I must admit, that looks sweet! Track driving is something that I am merely not familiar with. Ethan, I know we've had discussions before. Perticularly about racing/driving schools.
I would never say that track driving wouldn't be fun! I mean, look at that course... unbelievable. Any suggestions for the West Coast? So, class would include driving that track hard and fast? Are you afraid of "breaking" your Z on that track?
In any case, yes, absolutely I have an interest. In earlier talks I was commenting on the pleasures of driving on the open road, not discounting the exhileration of racing on a track. I've never had the pleasure. That's something I'll look into now that you put those pics in my face!
But again, for the most part, many of us won't or haven't had that track experience. On the same note, I don't know that I would want to beat my baby Z into the ground on a track like that. You may have just changed my mind...

I hear you about not wanting to abuse your Z. In the short run, you'll go through tires and brake pads much more quickly than you would on the street-- I'm not sure about the long term effects- it defintely puts more stress on the engine and transmission-

I am off to Mid Ohio on June 4 for school!! Let's just say that I am almost as excited about that as I am about getting my Z! Personally, I look forward to kicking it a bit in a 'safe' environment. How much better does it get than to race around the track in someone else's car with your very own professional back seat driver?! LOL

Here is some info about Z Car Clubs in CA. I'm sure some of these folks will have information about tracks and driver training events. A group of guys in my club (www.njzclub.com) do this stuff all of the time, and I'm sure its not just a Jersey thing!!! Also, ask about AutoX (Autocross) events in your area- that's another great way to learn:

I guess my biggest question is the dodge does not seem like it can push past 175. Modded or not. There are very few cars in the world that can hit 190 with or without mods. It takes a lot of track length to 190.

about 120ish in a '93 Volvo 940 Turbo... I know, it's a Volvo but it was a lot of fun and pretty quick. Was my parents' car but I drove it a lot. Also, a bit of a sleeper.
I still like Volvos... I just can't admit that in public.

142 MPH in a 92 Talon TSI @19PSI boost. Could have gone a little faster, but I chickened out on my aging stock suspension. It's amazing how the fear multiplies 10x for every 10mph past 120.
