No problem i thought, here comes the freeway. I floored it and after the initial surge of low end torque, i felt pretty much nothing. The power band just drops waay off after about 4500 RPMs. I wish nissan hadn't used pushrods in this engine. So i decided to take the Z out around some corners. The car would build up to its limits and then understeer relentlessly. I was actually smoking my front tires around the corners. It just felt so boring. Of course if i floored it around any corners in anything less than 6th gear, the back end would fly out. Also the transmission was totally notchy and it has a feature that skips from 1st to 6th under normal circumstances to save on fuel, which is like 10 mpg city 12 highway. In short i found myself really wishing i had VTEK since that would be way faster and a lot more exciting. Also the sound of a honda 4 cylinder is widely known to sound waaay better and more manly.
In short i severely regret getting this car.
I hope this honest to god account of my first moments in my Z has been helpful, and will aid you in your future descision when purchasing a car.

My initial impression of the 350Z is that it would be fast and zip around the corners. Despite the videos and reviews, the 350Z pulls slower than you think. Not only are the chambershafts shorter than the usual overhead cam pulleys, which leads to less power in the lower RPM's (Torque Lag). I was kind of dissapointed because I did not get the shot back into the seat that I thought originally I would. This is because of the higher end torque band installed on the headers that I mentioned before. Because of Torque Lag you don't get the feeling of being shot back into the seat. Most people put a popcharger on the exhaust to get over the problem, but the cost and install is pretty expensive and still barely gives the feeling of getting shot back.
Another mod you can get to compensate for this is the turbonator. Its not cheap but a pretty simple install. (took me about 5 hours with 1 friend helping). Still though, you might be better off with the S2000.
Although the Z is incredibly light, it is offset by the stiff quad shocks on of the brake calipers, so it does appear that the Z corners well, but IN FACT actually shaves off fewer seconds on the laps than originally conceived. Most people buy the touring edition Z because it has a TPS which acts as a counterbalance to this..but will cost a shiny penny to have.
A good car I would recommend that doesn't have this problem is the Dodge Neon SRT-4. Not only are these cars turbo charged, but it does outperform the Z. Go to the dealer, and ask, they will say that the SRT-4 is quite comparable to the Z.
Pretty much the Z is just a good looker, not a car worth it in my opinion.

+1 on everything he just said. Kid (deltaforce) thats probably the best description about how the Z is exactly.
