Default Thinking about joining the family...

Yes I am seriously considering a Nissan 350z Touring. I currently own an 2005 Scion tC. Its a good little car, but I wanted to turbo it. Yeah...I got the speed bug. A decent turbo+labor costs is gonna be about 5000 bucks. I owe 14,000 on the loan. So when I was thinking about it, I would be rather off upgrading to a different platform. Enter the 2004 Z I found.

The dealer said they would give me what I owe on the loan if I buy from their asking price. Id say they price is pretty fair...how about you guys?

That link doesn't show a specific car. What's their asking price, mileage, etc?

I don't see your logic: If you wanted a 350Z, you would not have bought a Scion.

You are going about this all wrong. You need to do the following:
  • Negotiate the trade in value of your car first.
  • Negotiate the selling price of the car you want to buy.
  • Negotiate the APR that you qualify based on your credit score.
  • Buy warranties only if you want to. They can’t make you buy any you don’t want.

Treat each as separate deals. Work only one at a time. Do not go forward until you are satisfied. Make sure you know the KBB value of your car as well as theirs as a starting point. NEVER EVER negotiate based off of monthly payments.

Great advice! Like JDMFairladyZ33 said. DONT NEGOTIATE off the monthly payments. Alot of people get lost in that and end up with a 72month loan.

So far it's sounds like a really good deal, a carfax check is always a must prior to checking out the vehicle. Good luck with your search.

Just go to www.carfax.com and put in the vehicle vin, it will tell you
how many records are on file. I think its 30 bucks or so, well worth it!
Also check to see if this qualified for the tire feathering issue the Z had
during these years and if its been fixed!

I'm not sure why that surprises you. Lots of tC owners turbo or supercharge their cars. It's an easy mod on the tC.

I agree with Cannysage. The tC is a great little car to run errands in. I have one, and I enjoy it thoroughly. Lots of standard features, good sized engine for its size, sporty character and room for people in the back. Still, it's not a sports car.

Sounds to me like the original poster owes too much on his tC. $14K is too much to still owe on a $17K car to be thinking about trading.

But if they're going to give him 14k for his trade in, he's not hurting himself too bad... as long as you aren't going upside down, I don't think it's too bad of a deal.

Depends actually. Are you just wanting to get rid of the Scion because it's not as fast as the Z? Other than that, are you pretty happy with the car otherwise?

This might sound kind of ridiculous to others, but going from a 2005 Scion to a 2003 Z (with more use and miles on it) seems almost like a downgrade in a sense. If I were you, I would either get a 2005 or newer Z, or not upgrade at all. Just my

Its a 2004.5 Nissan. So it really isnt that bad. Also the milage on my TC is 36,000 and the Nissan is 20,000. I want to be faster so in essence this is the smarter choice than force inducing my TC.

Going from an 05 TC to even an 03 Z is not a downgrade. I really like the TC but the Z is in a different class. Keep in mind that you will indeed crave more power in the Z after some time, and like the TC it it will be $$$ to get it. I had a 140 HP Sentra Se before my Z. I thought the 150 HP bump would be fine but after some time you get used to it, no matter what car you have. Fortunately teh Z has some styling that doesn't get old.

Make sure your used Z still has some Powertrain warranty left. The Early 03 Zs are just about running through their 5 yr warranty. Mine is up in September. I would really try for a used 05 if I were you.
